Halloween, a time of fright but laughter in the moment. Vanessa used to trick or treat and sometimes, when she had some friends despite how toxic they were, she would sneak out and go out with them. Of course this was before they started being outright mean to her.
Vanessa tapped in and came with her drive and laptop.
"Hello Vanessa, happy halloween" Nichole called.
"Hi Nichole, Happy Halloween to you too." She said, smiling shyly.
"I see you've kept your little "accident" there with your hair."
"Yeah, despite the fit my mom and dad threw I really like it." Vanessa smiled more whole heartedly.
"Very good, There's a DLC that will be available this halloween."
"But the game hasn't even come out," She objected nervously.
"It'll just be some games for everyone to get them excited for the real deal." Nichole said, winking and gently nudging her playfully. Vanessa giggled and nudged back, being as gentle as she could. Her arm was shaking from her dad beating her senseless. She was just a bit weaker than usual, she would heal though.
"Are you alright, Vanessa?" She asked, putting a hand on her shoulder. Vanessa flinched a bit, not expecting her to touch her.
"Y-yeah I'm fine, why do you ask?" she asked, knowing the stutter didn't help set the feeling in place.
"Well, I was going to ask you to work on one of the big areas, it's a corn maze with a foxy chasing. I was gonna leave you to code it." Nichole continued, a bit worried for her.
"Y-Yeah of course!" Vanessa said, excited to do some work that didn't revolve around fixing Glitchtrap's fuck ups to the main game.
She made her way back to her area, getting the set up for the game she was assigned to. She rather enjoyed halloween, it was a time of year where her parents would go out and have parties with people, they would be gone for days on end. It was a time she could enjoy nice spooks and peaceful alone time. She began to set up bases around the area, making sure the keys for the gates worked correctly with their corresponding color.
Vanessa could hear Glitchtrap talking again, "I see you've been given a task, my dear"
"Yeah, I was. What's it to you?" She said. Glitchtrap chuckled.
"I just wish to watch, my dear." He said, sounded like he was teasing again. But, she knew by this point he just talked like that.
"Alright." She said, agreeing lightly as she sat and continued writing out.
"You are simply a star at this, my dear. You fly through faster than I ever could as a virus." He commented, trying to complement her.
She sighed and smirked a bit, "Thanks."
She heard a hum from him, acknowledging her thank you. She ran through and added the textures on her own, since the coding wouldn't let the others do it. She finished up the basic layout and went into the testing room. Putting the headset on, she turned it on and plugged up the files. She looked around and made sure it was correct.
A loud caw set her off, she almost tripped over her own two feet and fell. She held her chest and giggled. She liked the scares. Her heart raced with excitement. She continued to go through the game, making sure no lag or bugs came about. Vanessa's eyes scanned the area, she saw a base model for where Grim Foxy would have been. She ran the opposite direction and hit behind one of the cutouts. It worked rather smoothly. Although in real life she knew that a simple cutout wouldn't hide her from this flaming monster chasing her down.
Glitchtrap laughed, seeing how stupidly obvious this would be in real life. Vanessa giggled a bit, wandering around, she found an old glitchy key.
"Glitchtrap. Did you make this?"
"Not at all, my dear."
She slowly reached out and grabbed it. It made that familiar low screeching noise. She looked around, seeing Grim Foxy close behind. She hid and ran once she got the chance. Eventually she stumbled upon a basement door. She starred and slowly crept over to it.
"Vanessa?" Nichole's voice said from behind. She jumped, pausing the game and looking over.
"I thought you couldn't test the games?"
"I-I just thought it would be easier than asking someone else. Since I know what to look for." She stammered.
"Well, alright. I assume you're testing the new DLC?" She asked. Vanessa nodded.
"Yeah." She responded, looking back and noticing the game unpaused, the cellar door gone.
"Well be careful not to scare yourself too bad." Nichole warned playfully. She smiled and continued looking around, she noticed Grim Foxy had caught her, but no jumpscare played. She hummed, knowing she'd need to fix that. She pulled the headset off and went back to her laptop. Vanessa could hear Glitchtrap humming children's tunes in her head.
"We all fall down~" He sang softly. Vanessa stopped.
"How many nursery rhymes are you gonna sing?" She joked.
"As many as I want~" He teased. Vanessa sighed, shaking her head as she smiled sheepishly. Glitchtrap chuckled, dancing around the abyss he called his home.
"You're silly when you aren't being a creep in the corner." Vanessa commented.
"Can't help it, I was designed this way," He said, poking fun at her more. It was a more light hearted tone that she could handle compared to her parents "jokes" on her. She could laugh for once.
"Got me there." She whispered, trying to not draw attention. She got close to the screen and made sure the coding was correct, sometimes her eyes would play tricks. Her parents would never take her to get glasses or anything for her vision. But, thankfully it wasn't a constant problem. It was only when she was tired or anxious. That was probably normal, really.
"When do you think I'll be able to afford a car."
"When you have your license." Glitchtrap jokes.
"Hey!"
"I'm only being honest, my dear." He said, chuckling a bit.
Vanessa smiled.
"At least you aren't being rude." She said hopefully. Perhaps someone was finally understanding her.
