Chapter 5 the talent show

It's the next day and I couldn't sleep last night because of what John said. I noticed Alyssa sitting by herself at breakfast. "Hey John, she's sitting by herself." I said. "She definitely deserves it." John said. "Yeah, I guess you're right." I said while at the same time still wanting to help her. The talent show is tomorrow and I was practicing my song whenever I can. I got it just perfect. I decided to do a Jojo Siwa song called nonstop.

Alyssa heard me singing and decided to sing runaway by Bon Jovi.

I heard her sing that during rehearsal. Her life must have been an absolute nightmare. "Dang, and I thought my life was bad." I said when I saw her sitting alone at lunch. Alyssa came up to me after lunch. "Ariel, my parents were also talking about giving me up. My mom was against it but my dad wasn't. So when I finally made the decision to run away I knew that my dad will be happy. Later that month they both died." Alyssa said. They didn't seem to believe her but I knew how she felt. The next day I couldn't eat breakfast because my stomach was hurting a little bit. I guess I was just nervous about the talent show today. I met with my friends and they told me what they are doing for the talent show. After the talent show I saw Alyssa sitting all by herself when everyone else was playing board games with each other. "Hey John, let's go play a board game with her." I said. Later that night I called my dad and asked him how everyone was. "Ariel, sweetheart, everyone is doing just fine." Stephen said. "Are Jayden and Lauren behaving themselves?" I asked. "Yes, they are." Stephen said. "Okay, I love you dad." I said. "I love you too. I wish that you could come back but it's not a good idea because I don't want to risk you getting targeted by the nighloks." Stephen said. Then I said bye to him and hung up. The next day I was just looking through some stuff when I came across something that I never thought I would find. "What's this?" I asked myself as I picked it up. It was a small Pikachu figurine.

"Looks like there was a ten year old kid here who really liked pokemon, Pikachu being it's favorite. I guess when that kid got older he or she might have thought that they outgrew pokemon." I said. Then I found a Luigia, Ash Ketchum, Groudon, and Hoopa figurine.

I thought back to when I first heard of pokemon. Then John met with me. "Hey, so Alyssa said that it was just her mom that died, not her dad." John said. "I was going to see if she was telling me the truth." I said. "Well, here's what usually happens, she tells the new kids lies about her life but the kids who have been here for a while get told the truth about her life. Every kid here has a story." John said. "Well, I told you about my life but I don't know much about your life." I said. "I don't think that you want to know what my life was like." John said. "Why not?" I asked. "Trust me, you don't want to know what I have been through." John said before walking away. The next day I was wondering why John doesn't want to tell me what his life was like. I decided to go talk to some of the other kids to listen to their story about their life before they came here. I still couldn't find out why John won't tell me about his life. I don't know if it was because he wanted to move out or if it's something worse than that. The next day I noticed that christmas was coming up. I noticed that everyone was excited about christmas, well, everyone except Alyssa. My friends and I were setting things up for a christmas party that we were going to have. Alyssa walked up to us as we are putting up the decorations. "What are you guys doing?" Alyssa said. "We're decorating the house for christmas." I said. "Bah humbug." Alyssa said. "What's wrong with christmas?" John asked. "I don't want to talk about it." Alyssa said. "Alyssa, just tell us what is wrong with christmas." John said. "I'm just going to skip it. I find it kind of silly. It's mostly a day dedicated to presents and candy, right? I know the story, jesus was born on christmas day. Every kid knows that story." Alyssa said. "But why would you skip christmas? That's crazy talk." I said. "Maybe you never saw the movie a christmas carol. After watching it you might change your mind about christmas." Virginia said. "Like that will happen." Alyssa said. "Christmas is about more than presents and candy. It's a time to celebrate with family and friends when we celebrate the birth of jesus christ." I said. "I think for most of you guys it's an excuse for silly songs and fun, not a day to celebrate the birth of someone who is no longer around." Alyssa said. "We're going to go watch a christmas carol downstairs, how about you come watch it with us?" Joe said. "I'm not watching that old christmas movie." Alyssa said. "Suit yourself." I said before my friends and I go downstairs to watch a christmas carol with the rest of the kids. While the others were watching Rudolph the red nosed reindeer Alyssa went back to her room to make a spell to cancel christmas all together.

"Once this spell is cast the world will be better off, and they'll have me to thank for it." Alyssa said. "Are you sure you want to go through with this?" The spirit said. "Who's there?" Alyssa asked. "The spirit of christmas past. We need to talk." The spirit said while showing up. "I didn't cast any spirit summoning spells. What are you doing here?" Alyssa asked. "You don't think a spell like that would get by without some powerful people noticing, you got our attention Alyssa Smith and we got some pretty strong opinions about this spell of yours." The spirit said. "We?" Alyssa asked. "They'll be over in a while. For now it's just you and me. Let's get a move on. We got a ton to see and barely any time to see it." The spirit said. "I'm not going anywhere, I've got a spell to cast." Alyssa said.
