Sometimes I wish I could wake up from my life.

But if I do, people may die. People will die.

My name is Sereia Darya Naida Kar, and I am a Mermaid.

A child of Air and Water. Daughter of the Ocean and Sky. This is my story. Take it or leave it. You might think I'm making this up, or that I'm a random girl frantically typing fantasies in pure, inky black darkness. I'm not, I promise. My story is pretty unbelievable... I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been thrust into this magical underwater world where I'm a child of the gods and have had a prophecy describing my heritage; and how I save the world.

Sometimes I still think this is a dream. I'll be the first to admit, I sometimes wish that I would wake up from this nightmare and find out that I'm having an elaborate dream, but then there are times that I'm buzzing with excitement, and pray that this is actually real. This new life of mine is crazy, magical, adventurous, secretive, and so much more.

This is me.

My story.

And it begins on the day of my 16 birthday.

I wasn't what you might call "quiet." If I wanted to speak my mind; I would. I could be loud if people weren't listening, and I was bossy (I preferred to think I had, leadership qualities), an empath, emotion-minded, sassy, determined, a fighter, brave to the point of stupid, and could run my mouth off like it was nobody's business. But today? On my 16 birthday, I fell into a relaxed trance as the ocean breeze caressed my skin, and the sunlight danced across my face. I relished the tiniest puff of air on my skin and the feeling of my silk bed sheets under me. I was 16. Wow. For some reason, becoming sixteen; which was once an impossible goal to achieve; had now happened. I let my thoughts wander with the wind, a peaceful smile forming across my lips. I stretched, sitting up, then stopped abruptly adding a shriek to my movements. Pain crippled my every movement, tearing my breath away.
