"Explain. Now."

Despite still recovering from a particularly nasty hangover, my father managed to stay upright as he sat in front of me, along with the rest of my family, supporting a part glare, a part smile of happiness. Tears still stained his blotchy face, his sharp words ordered me to share my story; but I didn't know where to begin. How could I even try to explain to him about my new fishy secret? Unfortunately, my father's grief and joy at seeing my siblings and I alive and unharmed had already overflowed in the version of messy tears, leaving him to flounder in the mystery.

Meir seemed to have inherited Liam's knack for solving mysteries, and I could see the thirst for answers in his eyes; matching the ones I often saw in my sister's. My father's jaw was clenched and ticking, his Adam's Apple bobbing as he gave me yet another once over, his mind probably painting gruesome, horrible pictures of what happened.

My fingers tightened around my hair; wet from the quick shower I had taken and pulled up into a messy bun. Thick strands escaped the thin elastic; which obviously wouldn't work for my new hair. Meir reached over and squeezed my hand; the warmth radiating from her palm comforting, seeming to say, it's okay.

But it wasn't.

Despite the fact I was a (generally) good liar, I hated it, but I seemed to be doing a lot of it lately.

"Maybe you didn't hear me. What. Happened."

My father voice's demanded my attention - leaving no room for arguments. Meir, Alton, and Aerwyna had snuck into the house after me, each of us curling together on my bed for warmth, before Alton and Meir snuck out again, each of them arriving when the early morning rays were just peeking between draping lace curtains (When Meir arrived with ice cream, Jae almost fainted), and each of them bringing up a set of questions I was expected to answer.

"Tell me what happened!!!"

I snagged my bottom lip between my teeth, twirling a strand of my hair between my fingers as I shot my father a smile, dripping with guilt and unease. My teal eyes peered up at my family, each of them wearing matching worried expressions, beneath my lashes, my bright, pigmented gaze swopping over the living room, refusing to stop on any of my family members.
