The next morning I wake up reluctantly, as usual, go about my daily routine and leave my room half an hour before school starts.
As I leave the building, the hostel warden calls out for me with a nervous smile.
I smile back in greeting "Good morning Miss Lopez! What's up?"She lets out a nervous chuckle and says "I..um..-I have something to tell you. Er.... the Head Mistress called.... She wanted me to tell you that you'll be getting a new roommate".
I stare at her in disbelief. I was quite happy with the news.
I would finally be able to wake up to another person in my room.
And actually share a bathroom!
That thought may have sounded like a disadvantage but I was so bloody happy that I no longer had to live in a dorm all alone. Then I realised I hadn't even asked for her name!
"Wow! I'm so excited! What's her name? Is it a new girl? Cos I don't mind helping her get to know the place and all!..-"I start off, excited with the news.
Miss Lopez's face expression changes from happiness to one of fear.
"Yeah....erm... Th-thats where you're wrong..uh..its a 'he'!"Miss Lopez's face displayed terror when she saw the shock, anger, and a lot more unpleasant expressions written on my face.
"You're kidding me right?!! What do you mean its a boy?!! Is that even allowed?!" I screech.
"I'm gonna have a talk with Mrs Jackson!" I say now determined to find the reason behind the Head Mistresses ridiculous decision.
Miss Lopez looks at me with a pleading expression "Now now! Please don't do anything rash! I'm sure she has a good reason for all this! For all you know you might get along with whoever your new roommate is going to be!"
Then I ask, still pretty angry with this unfairness, "You don't know who is staying with me?"
She shakes her head "No. The Head Mistress just said you'd be getting a male roommate. That's all I know."
I sigh knowing that it was wrong to lay my anger on Miss Lopez when it wasnt her fault.
"Alright. I guess I'll just wait and see who my roommate is. But if he turns out to be a creep I'm going to walk straight into Mrs Jacksons office and demand he be kicked out."
She smiles with relief and tells me to carry on to school.
I hadn't even realized I'd spent more than ten minutes talking about my new roommate.
Ugh! I am so pissed off right now I need to punch something.
Preferably a wall because it can't punch back.
I've always had a habit of punching something (non living) to let out my anger. This thought makes me look at my permanently damaged knuckles. I massage the painful part of my knuckles which are always pink, red or purple depending on the weather.
I reach the school in five minutes (its not that long a walk).
Since I'm early I rush to the football field knowing that Nate would finish practice anytime soon.I sit at the sidelines and watch them finish off.
Eli and his friends are also part of the football team.Nate sees me and waves, giving me a toothy grin signaling that he'll be right over as soon as hes done and changed.
I see Eli and his friends notice this and when they catch my eye Eli just smirks, Shawn waves at me happily and so do Mason and Josh but not as eagerly as Shawn does.
Shawn seems like a really nice guy so I wave back, smiling at him.
Just then a football is thrown at him and hits the back of his head.
