Chapter 1:
I wake up to the annoying sound of my alarm clock. The tone isn't an ordinary beep. No I don't wake up to that. Instead it's a loud screeching 'cockadoodledoo' imitating that of a rooster.
If Tasha or Natalie were here I'd have just waited for them to turn it off. But unfortunately, I don't stay with them.Damn it!
I reluctantly roll out of bed and stagger to the bathroom. I pee, brush my teeth and then decide if I should go to school or jump back into bed.
I decide not to since I have music class today.
I quickly change into denim shorts and a t-shirt and make myself breakfast, that is scrambled eggs and toast.
While making it I sing one of my favorite songs 'Give me love' by Ed Sheeran.I eat, wash up, grab my phone and bag, and leave my hostel room reaching school just in time.
The hallways are still full of teenagers as I push and shove past to reach my locker.
Just as I open my locker I feel a hand grab onto my leg.
"AAAAAH!" I scream and spin around to see my best friends Tash and Nat laughing their asses off and high fiving each other.
"Oh! You should've seen your face" Tash starts of and I know exactly what she was going to say next.
Quoting Zack from Suite life of Zack and Cody she says, "Oh wait! I can show you your face!"
And she does a ridiculous impression of me with wide eyes and her mouth so open I could practically see down her oesophagus.I roll my eyes at her. That was so predictable!
"Urgh! You guys are ridiculously, unbelievably, stupendously, astonishingly, ......AWESOME!! Haha! That was a beauty. Well played Tash. Guess that makes our score even. You better watch your back woman!" I say remembering our challenge in prank wars.
I had mixed egg yolk and orange juice into her shampoo a week ago. Her strong hatred towards egg only made it worse.
After she realized what I'd done she washed her hair over and over again till she ran out of shampoo.
She now hides all her hair products every time I go over to her dorm room that she shares with Nat.
I laughed so hard I shocked myself by not peeing. Ah! Good times!
Nat rolls her eyes at us "Boy! I'm glad I didn't get myself into this."
Grinning, I said "Aw.. That's just because your too much of a chicken! Puckpuckpuckaapuckpuckaaw!" flapping my arms around like a chicken.
Some of the people around us look at me with a 'what the fuck' expression but I don't really care about what they think.
I've gotten past the point of caring and I'm pretty sure they've gotten used to our antics too.But Nat doesn't think the same, "Ari! What the fuck are you doing?!!! You're embarrassing me! Ugh! Why don't you guys just act like normal human beings!"
"Now that would make us boring and you know it babe!" said Tash slinging her arm over Nats' shoulders.
I was just about to ask where Nate, our other partner in crime, was when the bell rings reminding us to run to class.
Within seconds the hallways are deserted.
I reach my class just in time and make my way over to my chair in a relaxed pace knowing that our physics teacher Mrs. Morris always comes to class ten minutes late.I sit in my place when Samantha, a friend of mine, comes over to talk to me. Samantha is the kind of girl who will tell you about any rumor in the school. Although listening to her can get a little tiring, some of the news she brings is pretty interesting.
"Hey Sam!" I greet her as she makes her way to the empty seat next to mine.
"Hey Ari! Have you heard about what happened to Eli?!" And there we go..- "I heard from Anne that Elis' dad is going bankrupt and that he may have to send his son to the schools hostel! Can you believe that?!! That's just one of the rumors about them. But Derrick said that Eli emancipated himself from his family and that's why he was coming to stay here. Basically most of the rumors lead to him staying in the hostel. Imagine that!"
I usually don't pay heed to most of the rumors but this one got me interested.
Eli is the typical rich boy in our school. He is who every girl fantasizes about and every guy envies.
He is filthy rich, obnoxious, egotistical, self centered, arrogant and doesn't care about anyone but himself.
I think it's safe to say that I don't like him very much. His very presence annoys the shit out of me. I have never come in his way and I don't think I ever want to because I'm scared I might not be able stop myself from giving him the death look. And trust me when I tell you, mine is LETHAL.
"Well. Good for them. That way Eli might be able to learn not to brag so much about his wealth and actually believe that money doesn't grown on trees".
Samantha, also being one of Eli's admirers, shoots me a disapproving look but I shrug it off.
Just then Mrs. Morris comes rushing into class, hair all messed up and tripping over her own feet in her hurry.
"Sorry I'm late, class. My son broke his toe because he tripped down the stairs.." she starts off with her ridiculous excuses. She always has some excuse or the other from 'My cat littered in my breakfast' to 'my daughter was fooling around in the kitchen and she spilled a sack of flour' when we know that she doesn't own a cat and her daughter lives 100 miles from here. Plano is a small world in itself.
But its fun to listen to the excuses she comes up with. "Right. Now where were we? Ah, the three laws of motion..-" and.. that's when I zone out.
I take out my art book and start doodling whatever comes to my mind.
Soon after class I make my way over to Music class with a happy grin on my face just because its music class.
I enter the classroom greeting Miss Abigail, "Hey Miss Abby" I say using my nickname for her.
Miss Abigail is my favorite teacher. She is always calm, friendly and smiles almost all the time.
She isn't very old, just four years older than me and that's what makes it cooler.I started liking her when she helped me get used to staying all by myself in my dorm room.
I was used to our busy house at home and waking up to an empty room all of a sudden, wasn't easy.
"Hey Ari! You wont believe the news I have for you today!! This year the Head Mistress decided on having a talent show. Its going to be at the end of this month.. Don't you think it'll be nice if you took part? You need to get over your stage fear and this is the only way you can. I've already planned on what song you're going to sing!"
I rolled my eyes at her enthusiasm, "I really don't have a say in this do I?"
Although I'm secretly thrilled about it.Grinning at me, knowing that I would agree to take part in the talent show, she replies "No. Now you better start practicing the song. Its going to be 'Lego house' by Ed Sheeran. I chose his song cause I know he's your favorite.!"
Happy with Miss Abby's thoughtfulness I grab the paper with the lyrics and start practicing.
Halfway through she adds, "I thought it would be better if it was a duet and not just you singing solo. I decided on getting one of my students who plays the guitar to join you. Hope you don't mind" she says in a hopeful tone.
Not that bothered with who it was going to be, I replied "Yeah, sure. I think that's a good idea."
Happy with my reply she says "Great! Ill get him to come for tomorrows class. You two can practice together then."
Oh! If only I had asked her who it was!
