Chapter 17

Aleks POV

All the way to school the next day Wolfgang would not look at me, he didn't even speak to me once. Is he ok? Did I do something wrong? Is there a reason why he's giving me the silent treatment? We made it to school and got out of the car, I waited for him so we could walk in together but he just slammed his door, locked the car and walked off. Tears pricked my eyes as I walked into the school. Was this his way of dumping me? Was he waiting for me to take the hint and bugger off out of his life? I took a deep breath and walked into my first period class room, trying to keep calm about what the hell was happening. Wolfgang walked in soon after the bell had gone, his head down. I waited for him to say something to me but instead he just sat at the front of the class as far from me as possible. Daniel came in after him and looked torn about who to sit next to. He went to sit next to Wolfgang, flashing me a sad smile as he sat down. 

Throughout the next three classes that I had with Wolfgang I was ignored by him, so decided to ignore him too. Each of his friends that I saw all gave me the same sad smile before turning back to Wolfgang. I once caught him looking at me, but he quickly averted his eyes like looking at me pained him. I scoffed and turned my gaze out of the window. 

I made my way into the canteen at lunch, hoping that he might say something to me as I would have to sit next to him, only to find my seat taken by a blond bimbo who was sat with her hand on Wolfgang's arm. I stormed over to a table in the corner passing their seats. The girl stuck her foot out causing me to trip. Laughter rang out through the canteen as I looked up at Wolfgang and saw him shrug and turn back to the girl. His friends all looked at me, then at him. Wolfgang sighed and got up coming over and helping me up. 

"I Wolfgang Brukan, alpha of the Black Heart pack, reject you, Aleksandryja Edrick as my mate, severing the bond between us," he said looking me in the eyes. I felt as though my heart had ripped out. The laughter died down and everyone gasped as a slap cracked through the silence. 

"You bastard!" I yelled as I stormed out of the canteen. I ran through the corridors, my eyes overflowing with tears and bolted into the forest, not once looking back. I collapsed in the forest and screamed up at the sky. I heard a long sorrowful howl rise up too. The wolf's own pain joining mine. 

So much for my happy ending! 

Wolfgang POV

I could not bring myself to look at her during the day, I knew I would back out of my plan and just cry 'fuck it' and keep her by my side. But I couldn't, I can't, I have to keep her safe, and safe is not by my side. Safe for her is as far from me as possible. 

I swear I could hear her heart breaking as I uttered those words to her. Heck, my own breaking as well, my wolf side howling in pain, begging for me to retract my statement, to get on my knees and beg her forgiveness. But I wouldn't. I had to do this for her. After she had slapped me I knew that no matter what I did now, nothing could ever make her trust me again. I sighed and kept my head turned from hers, knowing that I would not be able to look her in the eyes without hurting her more. 

I felt tears roll down my face as I looked back at the spot where she had once been. I ran out of the building needing the forest air to calm me and let my wolf side take over. I burst through the tress and found a small clearing. I sat down in the long, soft grass and threw my head back ready to howl. A scream of pain and pure, unadulterated rage filled the forest. Aleks. I threw my head back and howled, letting my own pain mix with hers; this would be the last time we would be together, the last time we did anything together: scream our pain at the world.
