"What was that all about?" I asked when she came into my room with Thomas both plastered with dirt.
"Nothing Caroline'" she said, her cheeks showing a hint of pink against Mary's will. I gave her a look of confusion and sadness and she finally told me. "Let me see your necklace."
"Why?" I asked.
"Please," was all she responded, putting Thomas down on my bed. I gave her my necklace which turned into a key while hers turned into a lock. She turned the key once it was in the lock and a memory sprung forth:
"When I came back to life he was the first person I saw. You should have seen him. I think I would be able to show you," she said as she held up her necklace which turned into a lock and mine, a key. I slid my necklace into hers. The gleam brightened the entire room. Suddenly we were shot to the past.
"Come this way" a reaper said and gently took Mary's arm.
"Where am I going?" I saw Mary ask.
"A safe place" the reaper said quietly.
"I don't think so Laurence" a boy emerging from the shadows. "I will take charge from here" he said confidently and the reaper left.
"Are you here to help me" Mary asked
"You could say that," he said as he shot her a sly smile and as a spirit I saw her cheeks turn a bright pink. He took her hand and ran off with me following all the way to the school.
"He was there for me the entire time and saved me. I have him to thank for that." She sounded so happy when recalling the memory that I just had to smile.
I heard a rampage outside my door and saw three girls whispering amongst themselves dressed in lace ball gowns. "Where are you guys going?" I questioned.
"There is a dance tonight for 7-12 year olds tonight. I'm surprised Mary hasn't told you." With a giggle in her voice. I turned around to face Mary with a sinister smile only to see her disappear before my eyes.
"Come on Mary, it's just a dance," I said while she tried on a dress trying to make the most of the time.
"I don't care," she complained while exiting the bathroom. I suddenly got wide- eyed from how she looked. Her dress was made of silk that touched the ground, an ashy gray color shimmered every time the moon beam hit it, her hair in an elegant swirl resting on the top of her head with loose curls framing her makeup covered face, silver to pink eye shadow brought out by her black eyeliner and a pale pink gloss masking her lips adding a color to them. I didn't even notice that my mouth was open until she acknowledged with great shyness: "Close your mouth please?"
"You are beautiful!" I nearly shouted. There was silence while she was looking in the mirror when there was a sudden knock on my door.
"Is Mary in there?" a male voice asked.
"Yes, why?" I shouted and ran to the door, Thomas following my heel, to see Marcus holding a bouquet of orange flowers. He was wearing a black suit with a silver shirt underneath. Calmly, I shouted over my shoulder to Mary, "Someone is here for you!". Mary came bounding over suspicion on her face until she saw Markus and started then to turn pink. He approached Mary slowly and then halted in place.
"Mary, you are my everything. Please be my girlfriend and my date to the dance." He said in a rushed tone obviously afraid. Mary gave him a smile that covered ear to ear.
"I would have it no other way," she said, wrapping her arms around his neck, got on the tips of her toes, and kissed him with a pink hue surrounding the two of them. Which made me come to the conclusion that it is indeed a fantastic night.
