New horizons

It's six am Monday morning when I hear my alarm go off. I swat at it to get it to shut up so I can go back to sleep, but when mom opens the door and turns on the light saying "Time to get up wouldn't want to be late your first day", I know my plan has failed. So I suck it up and pull myself out of bed.

My first stop is to the bathroom. In order to wake myself up I start the shower and wait for the water to become warm. While I wait for the water I turn and look at myself in the mirror. In the reflection I see a young girl with lovely dark brown hair flowing down her back almost reaching her waist, bright blue silver eyes, and a thin, small framed body. I was only five foot tall but I hadn't really minded being short. As I looked at myself in the mirror I thought about how much I would change in the next year. Would I even know myself anymore, or would I become a stranger to even myself? Turning away from my refection I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the warm water. I stood there, underneath the warm water, for some time just letting the droplets cascade down my back. It brought a sense of calmness.

Turning the water off I opening the shower curtain and stepped out into the fogged up bathroom. I dried myself off with the towel I had set out and then changed into my attire for the day. I wore a Navy blue dress that was fitted at the top but as it reached my waist it flowed outwards. Grabbing my brush I ran it through my hair several times before blow drying it to prevent it from frizzing as it dried. I only applied light makeup as I did not find it as something I personally needed.

With my stomach growling I made my way down the stairs only to find that mom was already gone. I spot a yellow sticky note stuck to the counter a peal it off in order to read what was written.

Angel,

I hope you have a wonderful first day and I'm sorry I couldn't be there to see you off. I made breakfast before I left in hopes I could at least somewhat make it up to you. I give you all my love.

-Mom

Smiling at the note, I look around the kitchen until I find my plate of eggs, bacon, and a biscuit and begin eating. I always love my moms cooking, it tends to always put me in a good mood. When I'm done I set my plate and fork in the sink and head to the bathroom to brush my teeth once more just to be safe and grab my backpack. All too soon I'm out the door and heading to my car that is parked in the garage.

As I find my way to school with a little help from my GPS, I notice just how large this school is compared to my old one. With only around 500 parking spaces that seem to only be half full I make my way to the front of the lot scoring a decent spot. I mentally prepare myself before it is time to get out. I don't want to have to face a whole new group of people. It's a stupid fear but I can't help it so I have to suck it up and face the fear head on. I step out of the car and open the back seat door and grab my bag.

As I make my way to the building a girl pops out of nowhere and before either of us could stop we collide into each other causing all of the girls books to fall to the ground.

"Oh my goodness! I'm so clumsy. I'm so sorry! are you okay?" She says in a rush.

I bend down and help her pick up her books, "I'm fine don't worry it is partly my fault too." I hand her the books I picked up and give her a warm smile. "By the way I'm Angel. I'm new here."

She grins at me, "The names Faith. Faith Lee to be exact. We get many new students each year I usually stop counting ha. If you need any help i'd be glad to lend you a hand?"

I didn't want to come off as dependent on others so, although I probably will need it, I denied the offer. "Thanks for the offer but there is no reason for me to waste your time."
