LUNA'S POV
As if to make up for lost time during rehearsals, my arm remains around Sam throughout the ride back home to my house. Sam seems genuinely thrilled at the idea of spending more time at my house. As for me, I don't share such excitement.
"Promise me, Sam, that you'll make time for us, alright?" I state pleadingly.
I know what my household can be like. I've been living in a large family for over ten years. One distraction, and there's no turning back.
In response to my pleading, Sam takes my hand, kissing it lightly.
"I promise, Luna." Sam murmurs comfortingly. "We'll talk all night." I manage a weak smile at Sam's response, my heart fluttering as she provides me a sweet smile.
Vanzilla comes to a screeching halt in the driveway of 1216 Franklin Avenue. I lug my guitar from the van, catching the curious faces of my younger siblings peering at me through the window. They see my suspicious glance, and quickly retreat. I exaggerate an eye roll.
Of course they know that Sam's here. News spreads like wildfire in this house.
Subconsciously, I take Sam's hand in mine, and she tightens her grip reassuringly.
Unlike other afternoons, the house is relatively silent when Sam and I enter, seeing how my siblings are watching the two of us with piercing gazes. The only sound in the room is the yammering of the television and Lily cooing from her perch in my mother's arms. The rest of my siblings are crammed onto the couch, some sitting on the floor and armrests.
"Umm," I mumble, finding discomfort in the sudden and unnatural silence.
"Oh, hello Sam, honey." Rita breaks the silence, playing the obviously fake "we had no idea you were coming" card.
"It's nice to be here." Sam says sweetly. "I hope I'm..." Her voice falters and her gaze flicks over my siblings. "... not intruding on anything."
With her free hand, Rita waves aside Sam's comment. "Oh, no worries." My mother states. "You're not intruding at all."
Mrs. Loud steals a sharp glance in the direction of her children on the couch, and, rather reluctantly, they return their attention back to the TV.
Clearing her throat, as if to start on a fresh slate, my mother regards Sam and I again. "Actually, you know what is a pretty good idea? Why don't you sleep over tonight, Sam?"
My heart drops into my stomach, and I instinctively tense up. Though on the surface, it seems like a brilliant plan, a gruesome layer of pure chaos lies underneath. It's evident that my family members are fangirling over the arrival of Sam, so getting a free moment with her is out of the question. Not only that, but Lucy has this tendency to spy on people through the house's ventilation system.
Of course we can't forget Luan! Crazy Luan! If Sam and I sleep in our room, we'll be subjected to her "night joking" as Luan likes to call them.
I love Sam, but there's no way that she's sleeping over.
"I'd love to sleep over, Mrs. Loud!" Sam gushes, bouncing on the balls of her feet with sheer excitement.
Of course.
My mother's smile widens, and she looks on the brink of opening her mouth to speak, but I quickly interrupt.
"I'll take her upstairs, mom!" I blurt, tightening my grip on Sam's hand and guiding her towards the stairs. Aside from a startled jolt, Sam doesn't resist my desperate actions. None of my siblings do either.
