LUNA'S POV ; ONE AND A HALF MONTHS FOLLOWING THE END OF STORY #2
I step back from one of the many bulletin boards in the Royal Woods High School, marveling at my handiwork.
"What are the posters for?" A voice behind me asks, and I startle at the sudden visitor. I turn to see the bright eyes of my girlfriend, Sam. Her features are aglow with curiosity as her eyes train over the poster I just nailed into the wall.
"Royal Rumble." I state. "Auditions for the after school program are being held this week." Sam smiles broadly at the news. "No way!" She gasps with sheer excitement. "I had no idea that they were being held this year."
I shrug indifferently. "Yeah, it was kinda last minute. Mrs. Vaporciyan came to me after our last rehearsal and requested that I hang some posters for her."
Just last year, our school partnered with the Royal Rumble, a musically incorporated magazine, to create an after school program. Members of the Royal Rumble collaborate to create a music arrangement that's performed at the end of the year. Sam, Mazzy, Sully, and I have been in it since last year. However, new recruits are necessary, seeing how many members graduated the year before. Usually, auditions for new members are held during late April (it's late April at the moment).
"I bet we could convince Alex to audition." Sam says. "They're very musically talented." I nod my in agreement seconds before Sam's face breaks into a large smile. "Besides 'musically talented'," She states, nudging me slightly. "I played your song for the 25th time last night. It's absolutely gorgeous."
I smile shyly, my cheeks flushing from the compliment. "You've told me so many times, Sam." I chuckle. "I'm flattered, but seriously, it was nothing special. Just something I put together..." I rub my arm self-consciously.
"Be quiet." Sam says comfortingly. "For the past month, I've been playing your song. It really helps to calm me down." I smile a wide smile. Wide enough to flash me teeth. My smile seems to trigger Sam's, for she's quickly sporting a large smile of her own.
Sam's words boost my confidence considerably. Enough so that, when I return home, I feel the urge to come out to another one of my siblings. So, sooner than expected, I find myself rapping on the door of my little brother's room. Lincoln answers the door, clearly puzzled.
"Wow, somebody knocked for once." He states, not trying for a sarcastic attitude. If anything, he's speaking the honest truth.
I know." I sigh, nervousness creeping into my tone. I twiddle my thumbs expectantly, looking Lincoln up and down. The eleven-year-old is wearing nothing but his orange polo and undies; common attire when reading comic books.
"Put on some pants, Lincoln. I need to tell you something." I say, and Lincoln's cheeks turn a dull pink as he glances down at himself.
"Oops. Sorry, one moment." He mumbles before closing the door. There's a brief rustling, then Lincoln has the door open again and is beckoning me inside.
Upon entering, I quickly glance around the tight room before sitting on my brother's bed. Clothes spill from his dresser, shoved in there miscellaneously. A silent walkie-talkie sits on his dresser, Clyde's voice usually emitting from it.
"So, what's up, sis?" Lincoln asks, propping his head up on the headboard of his bed and gazing at me expectantly. My confidence withers slightly at his watchful eyes. However, his eyes hold no hostility. No annoyance or impatience either. I find myself easing slightly.
"Well, you might remember the day we found that love letter in the mail, and we tried to figure out who it belonged to." Lincoln nods. "You may also remember my crush on someone named Sam. I continue.
