I would never tell anyone this, but I know people more than they think I do. It's not like I'm telepathic or anything, but whenever I heal someone, I get a brief glimpse into their memories. I always try to shake it off as quick as I can, pretend it never happened. That's how I see Jack being dragged away from his parents, screaming and struggling the whole time. That's how I knew something bad had happened to Vic's old roommate, even when he tried to keep it secret from me. I saw him in the hallway, soaked with blood, fighting against the guards as they held him down. But the connection never lasts long—it's gone as soon as I pull away. I never see into the minds of those I've healed, unless I heal them again.
But it's different with Vic.
Maybe they're just dreams. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. But every night, my dreams are filled with smoke and fire. I see the bright lights of the Facility and the gray concrete walls. I see a brown-haired boy around my age, holding out his hands to me, his lips forming words I can't quite make out. Worst of all, I see Vic, leaning against the wall of a cell, his eyes blank, his face expressionless.
Tonight it's not just images. This time I'm actually there, standing in the all too familiar field, walking toward him. I know it's not a memory—I'm too present to be in one. He's standing in the wreckage of the facility as I near him, his back to me.
"Vic?" I call, scrambling over the fallen chunks of concrete as I run toward him.
"Kellin?" He looks up, his eyes going wide at the sight of me.
I launch myself into his arms, burying my face in his shoulder. "I'm so sorry," I whisper. "I never should've left."
He holds me tighter. Everything about him is familiar, the smell of smoke, the way he wraps his arms around my shoulders, holding me close as if he's afraid I'll disappear. I can feel the familiar warmth of his body radiating against mine.
"What are you doing here?" he asks, his breath warm against my neck.
I pull away from him, confused. "What do you mean?"
"I thought I told you to go," he says. I open my mouth to reply, but I don't get the chance to.
"Hey!" I hear a shout and look behind me to see the guards closing in.
"Vic, we have to go," I step back.
He shakes his head. "It's okay."
"No, we really have to." I try to tug my arm away from him but I can't. "Vic!"
He shakes his head. "It's okay, Kellin," he says. "It's okay." The guards are nearing, shadowy figures looming closer.
"No," I struggle to get away from him. "We need to go. Vic!" He's not looking at me though, his gaze fixed on the guards instead, a blank expression on his face as they come closer and closer.
"Stop it." But he doesn't let me go until the guards grab my arms, dragging me away. I fight against them, kicking but they're too strong as they pull me down a familiar looking hallway, toward a door painted with a shadowy five.
They unlock the door, even as I fight against them, pulling it open to throw me in when a hand grabs my shoulder, jolting me awake.
"Kellin!" Oli is standing over me, shaking my shoulder. I have a strange flashback to the time Vic woke me from my nightmare, back in the Facility. Back when he—
Tears flood my eyes as I remember. My dream comes back to me, the strangeness realism of it all. It felt like I was actually there, him holding me as the guards came in.
"I'm okay," I whisper. It doesn't sound believable, not by a long shot, but Oli doesn't press.
"We're all downstairs," Oli says. "Come join us if you feel up to it, okay?" he asks, before he turns to go. I hear his footsteps fade away downstairs, but I don't have the energy to follow him. I can't do anything but lie there, wishing for sleep to come and take me away again.

If it doesn't make sense, basically, I imagine Kellin's powers to be kinda like a combo of Magnus Chase's and Reyna Ramirez-Arellano's.
Also, if you have any theories about what might happen, please let me know (i'd love to hear what you think)
