Kat glanced down at the instrument in her possession, it now being the perfect size for her seventeen-year-old arms. She strummed the song she'd known since she was eight, remembering her Dad singing it to her at bedtime.

"Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh, why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh, why can't I?"

The beautiful song was from Kat's favorite movie.

"Are you okay? You're crying," A young girl pointed out, startling Kat.

"Oh, uh, yeah..." Kat chuckled and wiped her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt. "You can see me?"

"You can see me?" The small girl asked, surpised.

"Yeah, of course, I'm a ghost. Are you one too?" Kat asked. The girl nodded. "How...old are you?"

"If you mean, how old was I when I uh, passed away...thirteen." the strawberry blonde found herself sitting beside Kat in the grass. "Hit and run," she said, answering Kat's next question; How?

"Ah, I'm seventeen. I fell. Badly," Kat chuckled.

"I'm Ellie," the girl said, holding out her hand for Ellie to shake. Kat took this as the perfect time to notice the color—or colors, in this case—of Ellie's eyes. One was a dark, chocolate color, while the other was a sparkling emerald.

"I'm Kat," Kat replied, shaking her hand. "You have really pretty eyes, Ellie,"

"Thank you," Ellie blushed at the compliment. She wasn't used to receiving them, especially since she was in the after-life. "You have a nice voice. I wish I could sing like that,"

"Oh, thank you, Ellie," Kat giggled. "So, where are you from?"

"Hollywood," Ellie replied. "My mom was one of the greatest managers, but I don't think my family lives here anymore," she shrugged.

Kat hummed in response.
She noticed Ellie's glances at the instrument in her hands. "Do you play?" she asked the girl beside her, and Ellie nodded.

"A little. I'm self taught," Ellie smiled.

"That's incredible! You have a gift, then. Here. Play something for me?" Kat asked, and Ellie nodded. She strummed a little tune, closing her eyes while she eased into the song. "That's beautiful. What is it?"

"It's called 'Little Things.' It's by a band called One Direction. I overheard someone on the street listening to them. They're really good. I also learned that they broke up five years ago," Ellie explained.

"That's so sad. If all their songs are as good as 'Little Things', they must've been a great band," Kat replied.

"Guess so," Ellie agreed. Kat glanced up at the sky, noticing the position of the sun. It was almost noon, and her eyes widened.

"I didn't realize I had been here this long! I have to get back home to my friends," Kat explained. Ellie stood up from the grass and wiped her hands on her purple pants.

"It was nice to meet you, Kat. I hope to see you again," Ellie giggled, skipping away.

"Bye," Kat mumbled, a small smile on her face. She frowned, realizing she was only Ellie's age when she lost her father. Though they'd both died young, Ellie should have lived longer than Kat. From the twenty minutes Kat had known the girl, she knew that Ellie didn't deserve to die so young.

Then again, everything happens for a reason...

But what was the reason?

Welcome Ellie! Kat made a new friend!!

I am so beyond glad that you are all enjoying this story as much as I am enjoying writing it.

I'd like to give a shoutout to GrapeJuice1011 for the picking an amazing song to fit this chapter! I used the AMAZING Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's video, because of the ukulele, but I used Judy Garland's lyrics because I thought it would fit nicer.

Also shoutout to RockWinter for your kind comments!!
