"Please welcome, James Covington," the crowd cheered, and Kat whipped around at the name.

Her father chuckled, stepping onto the stage. He scanned the crowd, "It's actually Jimmy Morgan, now," he glared at Caleb Covington, who was sitting with Kat's friends, probably talking to them about the show.

"Sorry, little brother," Caleb chuckled, before finishing his conversation with the boys, and walking away.

"Brother?" Kat gasped.

"Anyway, this is a little something I wrote for my favorite girl," Jimmy said, holding his guitar. "My daughter, Katerina. It's called 'Ready, Set, Don't Go.' I was going to sing it to her when she was old enough, but, uh," he sucked air through his teeth and the crowed roared in laughter. Kat didn't think it was funny. She teared up.

Reggie looked at the man on the stage, and then back to the stairs. Kat was crying. He wanted to go after her so badly, but he messed up tonight.

Jimmy began playing.

"She's gotta do what she's gotta do
And I've gotta like it or not
She's got dreams too big for this town
And she needs to give them a shot
Whatever they are"

Kat smiled a little, beginning to laugh and cry at the same time. She remembered the tune that he played to her before she went to bed at night, and this was it.

"Looks like she's all ready to leave
Nothing left to pack
There ain't no room for me in that car
Even if she asked me to tag along
God I gotta be strong"

Kat walked toward the stage so that her father could see her. He didn't see her yet, and when he started singing the chorus, Kat smiled.

"She's at the starting line of the rest of her life
As ready as she's ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in her eyes
The prize is hers to win
She's waiting on my blessings before she hits that open road
Baby get ready
Get set
Don't go"

Caleb Covington saw his niece in front of the stage, and with a wave of his hand Kat was next to her father, performing the song he'd wrote for her with him.

"She says things are fallen into place
Feels like they're fallen apart
I painted this big old smile on my face
To hide my broken heart
If only she knew"

Kat smiled, while her father gasped.

"This is where I don't say what I want so bad to say
This is where I want to but I won't get in the way
Of her and her dreams
And spreading her wings"

She hugged the man tightly, him resting his head on hers. And they sang this together.

"She's at the starting line of the rest of her life
As ready as she's ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in her eyes
The prize is hers to win
She's waiting on my blessings before she hits that open road
Baby get ready
Get set
Don't go"

Jimmy kept playing, and let Kat finish off the song, him only jumping in when he wanted.

"She's at the starting line of the rest of her life
As ready as she's ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in her eyes
The prize is hers to win
She's waiting on my blessings before she hits that open road
Baby get ready
Get set
Don't go
Don't go
Don't go
She's gotta do what she's gotta do
She's gotta do what she's gotta do"
