Kat didn't know where the boys had gone, but she knew that they were no where to be found when she returned to Julie's house.
Kat decided to just think of them like she had done last night, and hoped that it would work just as well.
"Uh, okay, think of Reggie, think of Reggie," Kat said, unconscious to what she was saying until she scrunched her eyebrows in realization. "Why Reggie? Gosh, Kat, what has gotten into you," she slapped her forehead and shook herself out of her thoughts. "Okay, the boys, the boys—" her eyes clenched shut as she thought of them.
The sound of silence disappeared, and suddenly she could hear screaming and seagulls. A beach? When Kat opened her eyes, her confusion flowed away when she spotted all three of the band members standing in front of a bike shack.
"Guys?" Kat questioned as she approached them. Reggie turned first and gave her a sad smile.
"Hey, how'd you know we were here?" Alex asked, cluelessly.
"I didn't. I just thought of Reg—you guys, and boom, I was here," she looked around. "Where is here?" she asked.
"Ah, Reggie's neighborhood. They tore it down," Alex shrugged, patting Reggie on the back.
"I guess my folks are gone," Reggie said, shoulders limp, and a frown on his face.
"Aw, I'm sorry," Kat sighed. Kat wondered why she didn't want to return home to see how her mother and brother were doing. It was weird. It hadn't even been something to cross her mind. Kat immediately felt guilty. She'd have to go see her mother sometime soon.
"Everyone's gone." Alex replied. "Twenty-five years, gone. Friends, family, Bobby, everyone,"
"I forgot there was a fourth member of Sunset Curve," Kat muttered.
"Bobby that's right," Reggie had his arms crossed over his chest. "I guess that vegetarian lucked out. What do you think happened to him?" he asked.
"He probably just got old like everybody else and moved on," Luke answered.
"Dude, how are you so casual about all of this?" Alex asked. "Don't you wanna figure out what happened?"
"For real. You coming down with something, Ghosty?" Kat asked feeling his forehead.
"You're a ghost too, you know," Luke chuckled, swatting her hand away from his face. Kat smiled and shrugged. "And, let's be real for a second. It's not like any of us were close to our families. My folks always regretted buying me that guitar. Reggie, your parents were literally a fight away from a divorce. Alex I...your parents were never cool again after you told them you were gay," Luke was serious. "Kat..I don't know you well enough to—"
"My brother always hated me, and after my Dad died, it just got worse. He wouldn't even speak to me," Kat shrugged, feeling Reggie stiffen beside her. He intertwined their hands, but Kat pulled away. Didn't he let go of her hand earlier? Why the sudden change of heart? Boys.
The group was quiet for a minute, and Kat absentmindedly played with the strap of her ukulele. "Okay, none of us had it great," Kat whispered.
"But at least we had something. You know, what do we have now?" Alex asked. Kat opened her mouth to speak, but Alex cut her off before she could begin. "And before you say cool teleportation skills, just know I'm not entirely okay with that either. All right? It tingles. In weird places," Alex used hand gestures to emphasize.
Kat rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. "I was going to say; each other. We have each other. And I'm starting to really believe that everything happens for a reason, guys. I don't know what it is yet, but I will figure it out," Kat explained.
