Around me were the remains of the creatures that I had slain. This was the sixth day of doing the same thing over and over. Birds, insects, or any source of life almost seemed non-existent no noise except the wind.
Each one tasted horrible, I sat on the carcass of the last and wiped the blood from my mouth. The others hid or flee not wanting to be a part of the menu this much would have to do for now.
The words that Andrew told me were they true, it made me wonder for the first time. Had I been wrong about what I heard, no I couldn't be but his face didn't seem like he was telling a lie. It looked like a man that was just as shocked and confused about the information.
"It doesn't matter," I said out loud as I got up and turned to go back to the settlement. "What would we do now?"
I heard a few steps behind me. "That is an easy one to answer, Domenic. I am actually surprised to see that your walking around and maybe a bit happy. Its better than looking at a broken man."
Samael, how did he find me?
"Surprised to see me it seems Domenic, I can absorb the vices too. It was strange to me at first I wanted to test it and see but now I know I can. Ha ha, this arrangement of ours has come to an end."
How many vices had he absorbed can I beat him, but before I thought of a strategy, he was right before me?
"Too slow."
The punch connected to my face as I flew back. My body hit the road causing a crack on the ground, blood leaked from my arm and for a moment my vision was blurred.
Not sure if he was going to follow it up, I summoned the hounds. Who roared as they ran from my shadow towards him, but Samael swatted them away with little effort.
Vines broke out from the ground, whipping frantically in the air, reflecting my own emotions as I tried to pin him down.
It worked for a fraction of a second before he pulled away the vines snapped at him. Cutting his face, his hands, but he took it as he stepped forward.
The hounds bit him, he merely shocked his hand, sending them flying some collided into buildings, others littered the road.
"Is this it, is this all that you have Domenic? Pathetic."
I expected that you would be able to do so much more than this.
He came to a halt as women and men appeared behind him, all naked in design. With blades in their hands, they moved like dancers and with lightening speed as they rushed towards me.
The first one I ducked as her blade passed over my head, but before I countered another was flipping its blade on me.
Shit.
I side stepped barely managing to get them with the vine.
In the corner of my eye, I saw Samael smiling as I struggled.
Why am I always so useless? Why do people always look down on me or think that they could do whatever they could?
Left, Right my body went sliding through them unable to even counter. It was almost like they were learning my own rhythm, they seem to be getting faster and my actions on the other hand slower.
This feeling that swelled in my chest. This anger in being looked down at me by a man that could achieve anything. Instead of dodging the next blow, I hit the mutilated woman. She flew like a pinball, knocking back all the rest that were there. Those that didn't get the full force were sent flying with the wind. Death was instant their bodies littered the road others fell on top of the buildings.
Large wings were on my back. In the glass mirror of the building, I saw my red eyes. I towered over him now. He was the one inferior to me and his smile was gone.
I roared towards him in my own rage.
"You aren't better than me!" he shouted.
He charged towards me and I did the same as we met in the middle. Our blows were exchanged with fury as my eyes were able to keep up with at least some of the moves.
We punched each other without dodging, each looking for the other to back down for the other to give up, but the pride between us was too great.
I was never going to submit to a man like him, and neither was he.
We were dancing in a garden bed of dead roses littered with bloody hounds, mutilated prostitutes and the carcasses of human and creature remains that lay on the road.
Blood spewed from my head and his sweat dripped from our bodies as each gesture of our legs or hands were made to hit the other. This continued for hours on end, no more words were shared between us. My hands were slipping as my body felt like it faded. He was getting the upper hand.
Each one blow I threw, my body received three. I was losing. I had been for a while, but I refused to move or run not to him.
My left leg dropped to the floor and brought me to the same height as him.
"Looks like you lose Domenic."
He raised his hand to my chest, but before he could hit me.
Something collided with him, making him fly into another building. I turned to this new threat, realizing now it was Ash.
She looked at me for a moment, staring at my wings before turning her eyes to where Samael had landed.
"You turned into that and still can't win?"
I heard the wall tumble before I responded as Samael came out holding his face.
"You now too? Great, I have all the pieces here.
Ash drew her blade as I got closer to her.
I heard something that caused me by instinct to lift her up and fly to the sky. In seconds, the surrounding buildings had collapsed upon themselves.
"What the hell was that?"
"I don't know, I just got a bad feeling."
"So you managed to dodge it," he said, looking up at the sky, "that doesn't mean you're safe up there though."
He looked slightly out of breath, just like me. He was tired, and that moved seemed to have drained him. He was bluffing, and I landed us back on the ground.
"Ash," I said.
"I already know," she replied.
I rushed him again from the front as Ash came from the side. Samael movements were sluggish, but so were mine. The only factor that made the difference was Ash. She was moving like lightening and Samael paid for each time he switched his focus on me.
A kick came to his head, causing him to fall to the ground. We had him surrounded as I was out of breath.
"Now then," I said, almost crawling to him.
"Wait Dominic, you can't kill me. I remember now, I remember everything. We are both the same. Ha ha, my name is actually Domenic.
His body changed and looking at me was myself.
"You and I are the same, we have done this over and over again. It doesn't have to be this way."
I paused for a moment.
"But since you're me, I can't let you live." He lunged at my neck.
Ash sliced his hand in half. His scream thundered throughout the air as a rain of curses spewed.
I looked at her. "I have to be the one to do this."
She sheathed her sword and walked away as my hand reached closer to Samael's heart.
Even in his death screams he still managed to shout. "Please don't kill me, I don't want to die."
His fate, however, for all his actions against me was sealed. Death was the only answer.
