He Comforts You

Filthy mudblood. The cruel and spiteful words of Terence Higgs echoed in your head. He'd spat the insult at you after you'd accidentally spilled your pumpkin juice on his robes in the Great Hall. The few Slytherins nearby joined in the name calling, as well as three some other petty insults your way. You knew not all Slytherins were like this, but the ones that were could be extremely hurtful.

You stormed into the common room and up to your room, not feeling like talking to anyone. Muggleborns were rare, and you were the only one in the whole of Hufflepuff who was Muggle born. They wouldn't understand even if you tried to explain how much that derogatory term bothered you. They could try, but they wouldn't. The Slytherin house, all but a few, took pride in bullying you every time they had the chance. It was the other reason you didn't join the quidditch team. You would be singled out, for sure.

Susan, who was sitting at the end of her bed, noticed your frustration the moment you entered the room. She was your only roommate, thankfully. She usually kept to herself, but lately she was becoming a good friend of yours. She quickly left the room, to leave you in peace you assumed. You sat down at your desk and pulled out your school work, deciding you would focus on that. Moments later, you heard a knock on the door of your room. You went over to it and opened it up, surprised to see Cedric standing awkwardly with a kind look on his face.
"Cedric, what's up?" You asked. He spoke at a low volume, "Are... you alright? Susan seems worried about you. She asked me to come talk to you."
You pressed your lips together and nodded firmly. It was just like Susan to worry about you like this.
"I'm fine."
Cedric laughed, "Hermione Granger once informed me that when a girl says that, she doesn't actually mean it." You crossed your arms. "Well. I mean it."

Cedric gave you a look, raising his brows and smiling doubtfully. "Come on. You know that I know you're lying. So tell me what happened."
You huffed. "Promise you won't think it's silly?"
He nodded and placed his hands under your elbows. You let out a sigh and mumbled, "Some Slytherins were calling me a mudblood again today."
Cedric blinked in shock, and his brows furrowed, "Why would I think it's silly for you to be upset about that?"
You shrugged and let yourself lean into him. He held you close and pressed his lips to the top of your head. He whispered softly, "I don't care if you think something is silly. If it's bothering you, then I want to hear about it so I can make things better." You frowned, and clutched his jacket tightly. "They told me I would dirty your pure bloodline."
"They said that?"
You nodded, and you felt his arms tighten around you. He took a deep breath, and it sounded like he was trying to calm himself down. You looked up at him, worried. He smiled kindly as he placed a finger under your chin. Cedric leaned down and touched his lips to yours, just barely, and whispered, "You know I don't believe that. And when the time comes, I still won't. Your blood status doesn't matter to me. You do. Even if you were a squib, or a muggle, I would still favor you." He smiled kindly, and you felt tears well up a bit. He took notice, and while there was slight panic in his eyes, you could see how it pained him to see you like this. He slipped off his jacket and gave it to you, waiting for you to have it on before taking you back into his arms, warmly embracing you. "Hey," he whispered, "It's going to be okay." He smiled kindly and kissed the top of your head. You huffed, "You're making it harder not to cry..."

Your words enticed a laugh from Cedric, but he didn't release you from his hold. And it didn't seem like he was willing to let go anytime soon.
