"Don't get mad, okay?" Cade kept his eyes down, fingers fiddling in his lap.
My heart dropped but I answered him with my best attempt of ' totally not about to wallow in misery and drown in despair' voice.
"I promise I won't get mad." I tried to smile but I knew it sucked when he cringed at me.
"Are you sure?" He glanced up at me and I nodded.
I just wanted to get the rejection over with so I could go to hell and get wasted.
"Yes, I'm absolutely positive I will not get upset." I answered him again.
I wished he would just get it over with already. I could hear him now.
'Kitty, I like you as a friend. Nothing else.'
I sounded like a middle schooler. I mentally rolled my eyes at my foolishness.
I was beginning to think I was growing soft.
The King of Hell was soft for some little human... At least it spiced things up a bit.
"Okay, Kitty..."
Go ahead and drop the bomb.
"I kinda like you."
Yep, there it was. Just finish already.
There was a long pause before I realized he was finished.
"You like me? Where is the but?"
He pressed and unpressed his palms together a couple times, "There isn't one."
"So you kinda like me?" I pried, hoping there would be more to his answer.
"Well, maybe a little more then kinda." He admitted, rubbing the back of his head.
His words were like music to my ears. The heaven I once was a part of was now manifested in the small human sitting in my passenger seat.
'More than kinda'
I grinned as the words echoed through my head.
"Well, that is quite the relief. I just so happen to like you a little more than kinda, too." I glanced over to him as we stopped at a red light.
His face was practically every shade of red imaginable and it only made me smile harder.
He had his hands in his lap and was pressing and impressing the pads of his fingers together. His eyes moved from his lap to the window and then back to his lap a couple of times.
"That-that's nice to know." He murmured.
His eyes moved to meet mine slightly and, oh man, I almost died. I didn't technically need to breath, which was very viable considering that Cade seemed to have taken my breath away and he didn't look like he was giving it back anytime soon.
"So would this be a good time to ask you out?" I questioned, glancing from the road to him.
"Maybe, if the light was still red." Cade giggled.
"Oh, shit." I cursed before stepping on the gas.
"Kitty! That's a bad word!
"Yeah, I don't know what you expect from me." I raised my eyebrows at him.
He only laughed, but it was more than enough to make me smile.
The sound of crunching metal and cars honking brought me out of my thoughts.
"Kitty!" Cade's voice rang through my ears and then I was slamming on the breaks, my arm slung out to stop Cade from gaining a concussion.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay." Case answered, "That's a bad car crash."
I looked from him to the scene in front of me.
Two cars had nose dived straight into each other right in front of us. Their engine hoods had been smashed and bent like tinfoil. One of the cars' tires was laying a couple feet away. Launched from the car by the impact.
There was glass and metal scattered across the cement along with blood.Screams echoed through the air as people called nine one one, asked for someone with medical knowledge, or cried out of fear.
Through the broken window of one of the cars I could see a woman laying half way on the squished hood of the car. Blood trailed from her head down the hood and the dripped to the ground forming a puddle.
"Kitty, do you think they're okay?" When I looked over, Cade's eyes were glued on the girl.
His eyes were wide and watery. I turned his head away from the gruesome scenes and to me.
The girl was already dead. I could sense it. The man in the other car was only barley alive.
"Cade, keep your eyes on me okay?" I questioned.
The look in his eyes was something I had seen for many centuries.
Fear.
That look had always brought pleasure to me but when the look was on Cade's face my chest hurt and it made me feel sick.
I pulled the car over to the side of the road. Once I had parked I unbuckled and turned to Cade.
"It-" I was cut off by something landing on the hood of my care.
It landed with enough force to rock the whole vehicle and when I looked up I saw a pair of black boots. I already knew who it was.
Semis.
