Thug Luv Pt. 1: Beginnings

All Apologies/Home Alone

Gangsta rap blasted as I sat on the bed, surrounded by plastic hangers and all the clothes and shoes we had just bought. All this stuff needed to be folded and put in the closet by the end of the night if I wanted to get some rest. We'd been to almost every store in the mall and some other ones out of town, everything I picked out or even looked at he got for me.

"Babe! Don't you think you went a bit overboard? This is a lot of stuff..." I shouted over the music at him to where he was in the bathroom.

"No!" I heard him shout back. I just smiled and folded up the last pair of blue jeans, setting them aside and getting up to hang the blouses. We were going to go out to dinner too but remembered we still had the seafood stuff we'd picked up at the store the day before. Darryn as gonna cook that up for us after he got done with his shower.

"KD come here! You left your phone on the sink it's in here ringing," he yelled. I sighed and put down what I was doing so I could turn the music down before answering the phone. When I opened the door to the bathroom a curtain of steam hit me in the face.

"Boy itsa sauna in here what you tryin' to do?" I asked him squinting my eyes so I could see to grab my phone.

"My bad baby, it's good for the skin," Darryn said peeking out from behind the curtain. I laughed at him and grabbed my phone from the sink, shutting the door so he could finish his beauty shower. It was Kobe's number calling, I hurried and answered it right before it went to voicemail.

"Hey, bro, what's goody?" I asked, propping the phone against my ear with my shoulder and picking up where I left off hanging up the blouses. The voice that answered me was not my brother's.

"Hi, Kyra..."

I stopped for a second, "Who's this?"

There was a pause on the other end, "...It's Melissa. Kobe isn't here right now and he left his cell phone so I went through it and found your number. I wanted to call and apologize to you about what happened earlier..."

I didn't wanna be bothered with her at all but she was woman enough to invade Kobe's privacy like that just to offer an apology. What could it hurt to hear her out?

"Go ahead," I said, pushing some clothes aside to make more room.

"I don't know what got into me..I guess seeing how Darryn looked at you while you were over here got in my head. I didn't realize I still had feelings for him after all these years until seeing him with another woman and it hurt me a little."

I winced, "But when you saw us at the supermarket you seemed fine."

"I was, or so I thought. I was thinking about it the whole ride home so I asked Kobe to invite you guys over for brunch. My whole reason for doing that was so I could take a few shots to see how you would react...and to see if I could get Darryn thinking about us again," said Melissa.

"I feel you," I mumbled, kicking a pair of shoes out of my way as I made my way over to the bed and sat down.

She let out a shaky sigh. " Kyra, I am so sorry. I guess I didn't realize how out of line I was being until Kobe got on me after you left. Not only did I disrespect you and Darryn's relationship but I disrespected mine as well, I deeply apologize. I hope you can forgive me and we can maybe be friends?"

Part of me didn't care to forgive her or be her friend. Any chick who tried to come between Darryn and me needed to be watched closely. Shit, I was still gonna keep my eye on Shonda even though she fucking on Ceaz now. The adult in me wanted to squash the beef and move on rather than hold it though, so that's the side I chose.

"Yeah, I forgive you, just don't let it happen again. I'll think about us being friends. I don't want you trying to mess up what we have just because you feel like you're entitled to him. He's moved on now and you need to work on accepting that because I know you haven't this quick. I also don't want you hurting my brother 'cause we'll definitely be having some issues if you do that," I said crossing my legs.
