Darryn left early that morning for filming and it was noon now, he would be back in an hour or so and I was waiting on his return. I was all alone in the hotel room smoking a blunt when I decided to play some more to amuse myself. I walked out on the balcony and sat down, swung my guitar over my lap, and started to play About a Girl by Nirvana.
"I need an easy friend
I do, with an ear to lend
I do think you fit this shoe
I do, but you have a clue
I'll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can't see you every night
Free... (I do)"
*knock knock knock*
I stopped abruptly and turned my head, looking over my shoulder at the door. The knocks came again. I sighed and sat my guitar aside to get up and answer the door.
"Who is it?"
"It's Johnathan, from last night," he answered.
"Can I help you?"
"I was curious to know if you'd thought about my offer, Ms. Bryant," said Nash.
I hadn't thought about it anymore after he left because I thought the whole thing was a big glob of bologna, but I guess it wasn't since he'd come back.
"Y'know I just like to sing and play for fun. I will say I find it flattering that you find me talented enough to consider me for an artist, I don't think I wanna do it to make a living," I answered through the door.
"Fair enough. It's a pity though, we need more girls like you out there with lower registers. The music business seems to be dominated with lady sopranists."
"Well we still have Anita and Toni so I think we'll be okay," I laughed.
"What about your boyfriend? Is he musically inclined as well? I've really been trying to scout out some new artists," said Nash.
"No. Darryn is an actor, he doesn't do music. He's not here right now he left earlier to go film for a movie he's in."
I heard him lean against the door, "Yeah? What's the movie called? I may give it a look once it's finished and out."
"It's called Lockdown. Just look for his character, he's an inmate by the name of Nate."
"Interesting. Y'know it gets kinda boring being in my room alone all day, I only go out early mornings to do work in the studio. I'll be here another week...Do you know any card games Ms. Bryant? I have a deck in my room we could play."
"Yeah I do, but I don't think it's a good idea for us to be alone together."
"We could take them down to the lobby and sit in the lounging area, it's out in the open."
As long as he didn't try to pull no weird shit I was down. It'd be nice to have a friend to hang out with while Darryn was gone, better than being cooped up in that room all day.
What could it hurt?
"Lemme slip on some shoes and I'll be out."
"Great! I'll go get the cards." I heard Nash go back in his room so I searched around for some shoes to put on and went out in the hall to wait for him. When he came out I noticed he was dressed more modestly than he was last night. His hair was still neat but he had on a pair of distressed jeans and a Grateful Dead t-shirt, he was also barefoot. He had big, strong looking feet.
