Love's In the Air

"Oooo someone is hungry!"

I took the almost empty bottle out of Kaamil's mouth and tucked it under my arm, wiping his mouth with the bib before I got back to feeding him his milk. I'd been watching him just about all day and was enjoying every bit of it. He did a lot of crying when Shonda first left but after a while he calmed down. I had a little under an hour left with him before her and Ceaz would be back from work. At first, I was nervous being all alone with him. I knew all the basics from a class I took in high school but I've never had to look after a real baby so this was different. Darryn was there earlier to help me out but after a while he went to chill with his boys. He'd been so focused on me and hadn't seen them so I didn't mind, hell, he had a life outside of me so whenever he wanted some time with them I would be cool with it.

Kaamil must have liked it when I fed him standing up because every time I sat down he started crying. My back was beginning to ache so I leaned against the fridge while he finished up to gain some relief. I was burping him when Slim and Jalisa came in dressed to the hilt, I winced when I saw them.

"Well hello. You two look mighty spiffy," I said, pulling out a chair and having a seat at the table. Shaun looked like he'd had a haircut and was dressed in brown loafers, brown slacks and a black shirt that was tucked in. Jalisa had on a black dress that came just above her knee and some heels, her hair was all shiny and she had it styled like Nia Long's had been in Friday.

They greeted me back and came to sit down across the table with these weird ass grins on their faces like they wanted to tell me something but were waiting on each other to talk first.

"Why ya'll acting weird, what's up?" I asked, my eyes shifting back and forth between them.

Jalisa nudged Shaun hard with her elbow, "You tell her! I'm so excited I don't know how to say it!"

"We went over to Vegas and got married," Shaun said, his light skin turning pink.

I lit up, "Oh! I'm happy for you two! I didn't even know you were engaged!"

"We actually weren't. This was something we decided on outta the blue," said Jalisa as she reached over and held Shaun's hand. "I don't even have a ring yet but Shaun and I are going to pick one out tomorrow, then it's on to the honeymoon! We're going to Hawaii!"

"Shit that's dope!" I exclaimed.

"Yeah we called our folks after the fact and they were kinda heated they didn't get to see us get married but they'll get over it," said Shaun.

"True that," I smiled when I noticed Kaamil had fell asleep on my shoulder. "Darryn probably gonna be mad at ya'll too."

Shaun chuckled, "He'll be ah'ight. By the way, where's he at?"

"He went over to Monte's and them. Said he'd be back later I hope he don't get into no shit."

Jalisa shook her head. "Yeah me too, he over there in the Jungle, I don't see how he stands it."

"What's the Jungle?" I wanted to know.

"Blood country, KD," said Shaun. "The Black P Stones are over there. That's where all the crazy shit goes down. It's usually where niggas get jumped in at."

"Jumped in?"

"Yeah that's how you get initiated. You either get jumped in, that's where all of them beat the shit out of you and you have to take it, or you get blessed in," Jalisa said. "Darryn got blessed in 'cause they fucked with him from the movies."

"I see," I sighed, as I rubbed Kaamil's back. "He said he used to get into a lot of shit with them."

"Yep," said Shaun, "He used to go with people to do drive-bys but he never shot nobody. The worst he ever did was rob houses, I don't know why. I guess he felt like he didn't have nothing else to do after he quit doing movies."
