I walk through camo holding a very important letter. A letter telling who is going to become the next super soldier. I walked to Dr. Erkstein this morning because I knew the men would be all over me.
Peggy joins me as I walk through camp and I quickly show her the name. She smiles knowingly. We walk stride for stride through camp. I walk slower because of her heels. It's breakfast time and the men know to go their without me having to tell them.
As we walk to the doors, we slam them open making a huge show. They look over at us and I wave the letter in front of my face as if it is a fan. I walk through the rows of men toward the food.
"Goodness Peggy, why are all the men staring at us?" I ask her with a smile and she smiles back at me as we're teasing the men. "It's just really hot, so I came to get some armored heifer." I say and grab the can of milk. I then grab a plate of food and sit at the table farthest from the men.
She sits down next to me. "It looks like those men are about to go bonkers if you don't tell them the news." She whispers in my ear and I let out a laugh.
"Yeah, but when I say who I know they'll go after the booze and go into a drunk stupor." I whisper into her ear and giggle. "Hey Peggy, do you carry the torch for any of our men?" I whisper into her ear and she blushes! "Oh who is this dreamboat of yours?" I tease and she rolls her eyes at me. "Be careful, don't want to get those stuck." I tell her.
"Oh is he one of the chrome-domes?" I tease her.
"No, of course it isn't. I like a man with hair. But have you seen yourself near that little man of yours. I can tell you like him by the way you look at him." She says and I shake my head fighting off a pointless blush.
"He knows nothing of women and don't try to change the subject. Who is this dish you blush about?" I ask her.
"Okay he is one of our men. He is one of the eager beavers for training. He can also be a fat-head." She says and my mouth goes agape.
"It's Hodge, isn't it?" He blush deepens. "It is!" I yell and all the men look at me. I snatch the letter, throw out my food and run out of the dining hall with Peggy running after me. I bump into somebody and land on the ground. I look up at Colonel Phillips.
I get off the ground and stand in front of him. I raise my arm in a salute and make my face an emotionless book.
"Sorry, Sir." I say to him, look him in the eye.
"Looks like you need more training." He says and I can feel anger run through me.
"No, Sir. I accidently ran into you and fell to the ground. I am perfectly fine and have no need for training while I work with the super soldier recruits. I have dealt with many assassinations while training and I still went through it." I say back to him and I know the men inside the dining hall watch me.
"Do they know who the super soldier is?" He asks me.
"No, Sir." I answer while still looking him in the eye.
"Do you know?" He asks me.
"Yes, Sir. The letter is right here." I tell him and hold up the letter in my left hand.
"Would you please tell them now? We'll be leaving for Brooklyn in a few days and I want him packet before then." He says and I nod.
"Yes, Sir." I turn to the men. "Soldier, Rogers you are the man for the super soldier. Please get your things ready when you finish and then meet the men on the field. I'll be running laps with you today. All the other men, you'll be staying here till we see if the serum worked. We'll then make you one if it does. You'll be sent into the 107th troop if it doesn't successfully work. As you heard earlier men, I want you out on the ground at 0900. If you're late you have five extra for every minute." I say and I turn back to the Colonel.
"Good job, Captain. I'll be watching you on the laps and I expect you to be in the same shape you were when you came here." He says and I nod.
"Yes, Sir." He walks away from me and I stand there tense. I walk over to Peggy. "Watch that Rogers doesn't get hurt by the other men. I'll go quickly and pack for a small trip to Brooklyn and then I'll watch." I say and leave, walking through the men.
I walk back to my cabin and change into a uniform like the men have. I quickly pack my clothes and leave my The Dark Huntress uniform out for the trip to Brooklyn. I am the protection for the ride.
I walk out and see men surrounding Steve. I walk up to them and shove to the middle where Hodge is.
"Where is Agent Carter?" I ask sternly.
"Going to the infirmary." Hodge answers and I look over at him.
"What happened to her?" I ask and notice some swelling in his face.
"She had a pain in her hand." He says and I know she hit him in the face. He starts walking toward Steve and I stand in front of him.
"What do you think you're doing, soldier." I ask him with an angry look in my eyes. My fist clench at my side. "If you touch soldier Rogers, I won't be able to handle what happens to you next." I growl and he takes a few steps back. "I want you at the front of the running line. Now go." I yell and they line up.
I yank Steve up from the ground and I brush some dust of his shoulder. I notice bruises on his face. I hold my hand up and instantly heal them. He lets out a grateful sigh because he no longer hurts.
"You good now, Steve?" I ask him and he nods.
"Thanks." He answers and I nod.
"What good is a friend with powers if she doesn't use them?" I say and he smiles. "Let's go and begin running. I'll help you pack up tonight." I say and we begin running.
Later that night.
"Aww here's a book I got you for your birthday!" I say and I grab it. I open it to the first page where I gave him birthday wishes.
"That's the only reason I brought it." He says and I smile at him. I place a kiss on his cheek and he blushes.
"You're really sweet, you know that?" I say and place the book in with the rest of them. He smiles up at me. "You know you don't need a girl like Bucky does. You're fine just like you are and no girl needs to change you." I say to him and we finish packing his clothes. I sit down on his cot in a huff.
I look down at my hands and rub the rough calluses. My nails are not long, but they are not sharp either. A hand grasps my chin and pulls it up. I am met with lips on mine and since I know its Steve I kiss him back and I run my fingers through his hair.
I pull back when I hear foots steps near the cabin. We both have uneven breathing and I look up at him and blush. I grab a shirt and begin folding it as a distraction.
"I'm sor-"He begins and he doesn't finish it before I throw the shirt on the bed and I grab him, yanking him towards me and crashing his lips into mine. I pull back and look him in the eyes.
"I wanted to do that for a long time. I'm sorry that was uncalled for." I stand up from the bed. "I'll see you tomorrow, Steve." I walk out of the cabin before he can reply.
A/N Sorry for the short chapter, but I thought this one deserved to end like this.
