- Chapter 2 - Oscar - Visiting Race -
Warning: Beaten
Third Person POVOscar had been right about Race probably not being able to sell the day after he got beaten up, or soaked, as the Newsies call it.
Race never showed up to get his papers, and Oscar could tell that all of the Newsies were on edge and worried.
He had heard some of them whispering about what could've happened to Race, and that they're worried since he hadn't woken up yet.
Oscar avoided all of the Newsies gaze when they got their papes, and avoided making eye contact with them.
They would be grateful that Oscar saved him, if they even did believe him, but he didn't want to try to see if they did, and Wiesel, plus Snyder, would kill Oscar if they found out that he saved Race.
He knew the Newsies might've noticed the change in his mood, but they probably didn't care, and they were probably more worried about Race at the moment.
When all of the Newsies left to go sell, and Wiesel left, Morris turned to Oscar.
"We don't have to go to the Refuge today, so you're free" Morris tells his brother, and Oscar nods, still not meeting his brother's eyes.
"Okay" Oscar responds, fiddling with a bandana that he had wrapped around his wrist.
Oscar and Morris both had one, it was from their father. Oscar never knew why he kept it, since he hated his father, but he did. It was his and Morris' thing.
"I'm gonna ask you a question, and you have to be completely honest with me" Morris tells Oscar, who looks up at him.
"Shoot" Oscar responds, as the two boys sit on a stack of newspapers across from each other. Morris sighs.
"Did you save Racetrack?" Morris asks Oscar, who looks at him, eyes widened.
Oscar looks down, and fiddles with the bandana more. "I... I did..." Oscar responds, getting ready for Morris to be mad.
Instead of getting mad, Morris just smiles at Oscar. "You have a crush on him?"
"Maybe..." Oscar answers, and Morris grins.
"Oscar! This is wonderful! Why do you look so sad?" Morris asks his brother, as Oscar looks up at him, shocked.
"You a-aren't mad?" Oscar asks, and Morris shakes his head.
"No. I'm also gay. I think it's cute" Morris answers, and Oscar looks at him.
"Would they be mad?" Oscar asks, his voice still at a whisper.
"The Newsies or Snyder and Wiesel?" Morris asks, and Oscar holds up one finger. "Oscar, you literally saved their brother, never mind Jack's second, from getting killed. No, they wouldn't be mad."
"I want to go see him, but I can't" Oscar mumbles, still picking at his bandana.
"Oscar look at me." Morris instructs him, and Oscar looks at Morris. They're eyes meet and Morris continues. "Go see him. I don't know why you won't just go tell the Newsies that you saved him. He's your crush."
