I awoke to two girls leaning over me. I sat up, defensively, and they snickered. I recognized one from my potions lesson; Daphne Greengrass. The other, I didn't know, her dark bangs hanging just over her shoulders. Both were wearing green quidditch jerseys, both of which were far too large to belong to them.
"Alright then, Nibley?" Daphne says. I stare at her blankly. She rolls her eyes. "Daphne. Greengrass." She reminds me in a monotonous voice." And that's Pansy Parkinson." she said, gesturing to the girl next to her. I gave a thin-lipped smile.
"Let yourself in ok?" Pansy said softly, her demeaning manner a surprise in contrast to Daphne's aggression. I sit up and make my way over to my pile of clothes that resided on the vanity next to my bed.
"Yeah. I hope I didn't wake any of you." I pull my robes over my current attire, then wriggle so my pyjamas drop to my feet.
Pansy smiles. "No, I'm a deep sleeper."
"Some of us aren't, Pansy." Daphne calls from the bathrooms. "You woke me."
"Sorry."
"You slept in for way too long, we've probably missed breakfast by now." Daphne walks out of the bathrooms, fully clothed. "I mean, I don't eat breakfast. But it's annoying how I had to change my schedule because Snape asked me to be your babysitter. We've been waiting here for ages."
"Pansy looks pretty comfortable in ... Montague's quidditch jersey." I crane my neck, so I could see the name embroidered on the back. Pansy flushes pink.
"Get changed, Parkinson." Daphne sighs, and sits down on her bed, bored. Not long after, her eyes begin to flash with that same quizzical curiosity that she had during Potions.
"How's Hogwarts treating you?" She asks sweetly.
"Fine, thanks."
"Where again did you say you came from?"
"Uh ... another school."
"Called? We may have mutuals. I know a lot of people." She says smugly, leaning back.
Pansy walks out of the bathroom. "We've missed breakfast." She announces. "But we have a free period anyway. C'mon, let's go to The Great Hall."
I immediately followed Pansy out of the room, avoiding Daphne questions.
I don't even know the answers myself. How can I use magic? The sorting hat had to notice I did not possess any magic.. but apparently I did. But how? I definitely don't have wizard parents. Do my parents even know I'm gone? Ugh, those questions were giving me a headache.
We arrived at The Great Hall. Many students were enjoying themselves with reading, playing chess, or simply just talking. Instantly I tried to spot any of my friends, luckily I did. Ron, Harry, and Hermione were reading a book.
As I wanted to approach them, a hand grabbed me. "Uh, no. Today you are in Slytherin and that means you will only hang out with people from Slytherin." Daphne dragged me by my arm to the other side of the hall.
Oh no.
Draco and his friends were sitting at the Slytherin table aswell. "Um, actually I can decide on my own with whom I want to hang out with." I protested, pulling back. Daphne lifted her eyebrows. "They probably don't want you to bother them. They seem busy."
Daphne pointed at my friends Hermione, Harry, and Ron who were whispering to each other, arguing about something.
They seemed occupied, but they had time for me.. right?
"So come on." again she dragged me with her.
Nearing Draco he glared at me. Anger bottled up inside of me.
"So, Jaida. I asked you something." I faced Daphne who sat on the other side of table."Hm?"
"Which school were you from?" She twirled her hair confidently, enjoying this. She knew I was hiding something and probably would do anything to find out what my secret was.
But what will happen if they find out? Expel me? or worse... Execute me.
No, they wouldn't kill me. I think.
But I realize now that Dumbledore never was suspicious about me.
"Jaida! I asked you a question," Daphne repeated, irritated. Her eyes tried to read my thoughts.
"Leave her alone." Pansy intervened.
Daphne frowned, letting her hair go and stood up.
"No. I'm not leaving her alone. I'm doing what no one dares to do."
"Stop it." Raising my voice I looked around hoping no one would notice our conversation.
"No." Daphne simply answered. She stood up while grabbing her books. Her eyes flickered with entertainment.
With a loud thump, the books fell on the wooden table. People turned to look at us.
"So NO ONE thinks it's odd that she appeared out of nowhere? I bet she is dangerous, she even said it herself. We should get rid of her or at least know where she came from."
Whispers started along with nasty and curious glares. Daphne leaned forward with her arms onto the table, hovering over me. I didn't look down, I held my head high.
The tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
I sat there in shock. Get rid of me? My hands started trembling. I truly despised her. Also, I felt out of place, not only in Slytherin but in this whole school.
I wanted to run away, but I couldn't move an inch.
"Is that a threat?" I asked, looking her straight in her blue eyes. The hall went completely silent. We glared at each other for a few seconds. My heart started beating faster. I had the desire to pull her blonde hair and smack her precious little face onto the table but I calmed myself down.
No one dared to interfere.
"Alright. You'll see it eventually. She's dangerous. I warned all of you." She walked away with her head up high. The whispers immediately began after she was out of sight.
"Are you okay? I'm so sorry. She can be a bit harsh sometimes" Pansy comforted me. I nodded. I just needed to get out of here and so I did. "I have to go."
Almost running I walked out of The Great Hall to The Courtyard.
Mumbling about what just happened, I looked down what caused me to bump into someone else. "Watch out stupid-" Quickly my hand covered my mouth.
Anxious to see who I shouted at, I was surprised to see a tall nice-looking boy. His dark hair lightly covered his bright greenish eyes. He looked at me confused.
"I'm sorry, but I think you bumped into me." he gave me a little smile.
I remember him from the movies.
I think his name was Cedric?
Ah, yes.
Cedric Diggory.
