My senses immediately flared up as my consciousness crept once again

My senses immediately flared up as my consciousness crept once again. My orbs adjusted to the blinding light above. I stretched my arm when my hands crashed on a solid yet smooth surface. I instantly opened my eyes only to see myself resting inside a rectangular-shaped box. A coffin?

What am I doing here?

My fear started to kick in. I punched the glass but it didn't break. I kept on banging until my knuckles are bleeding. The trepidation grew violently, enabling my mind to rationally think. I tried once again but before my fist landed on the glass, a thunderous voice echoed.

"Child, you have not seen the surfaces and that made you their perfect formula. I will cease your existence before you impede my victory."

I was completely frozen in my spot. I waited for him to glimpse where I was when his bony hand blocked my view, holding a glass filled with red wine. I don't know but there was something in his drink that made me uncomfortable.

I amplified my senses like I have amplified abilities. Even if I don't have one, I put an effort just to glimpse something on his drink. When he placed the wine glass on top of the coffin, I let out a horrendous scream.

"Leave us alone! We mean no harm to your well-being and your territory. Grant us the freedom and we'll never come back again!" a woman spoke out of nowhere.

I saw something floating in crimson liquid. A slim figure similar to a human– wait. I lifted my head to get a closer look but to my horror, a bloody face of a woman appeared in front of me.

"Right, my witchy, April?"

—A few days ago, I woke up from a nightmare. It's traumatizing to see such gruesome mental images. Especially that it involves my twin sister who is already dead. Avery appearing in my dream means something. That is what I am trying to decode.

"Still thinking about that nightmare?" my mother asked me.

We are currently eating our breakfast before our daily errands. But today is an exemption. I threw a quick glance at the bunch of Chrysanthemum and candles prepared by my parents. I also spotted the wooden basket which I presumed is full of packed foods.

"Not really. I wasn't terrified at all knowing that it was her."

Right. If it wasn't for the nightmares and articles circulating around, I would tuck myself under the bed. Avery, your death revitalizes our monotonous routine.

I tilted my head to the left and watched my father. One thing I am sure, he's lifeless like me. We are both struggling to stand against the aftermath. But we continued hoping.

"Dad?" I called his attention.

Meeting his eyes for the first time after five years felt so different.
