B. Hear the truth from the council
The chaffering sounds and continuous beeping of the monitor pulled me in the depths of my sleep. I immediately saw Priam having a serious one-on-one conversation with a hideous female doctor. I think they are talking about my bad condition. I just hope that there's nothing critical to worry about.
The previous fights made me reevaluate my decisions. It's a good sign that I trust no one in this daunting death expedition. In that way, it'll be less stressful to handle my consequences for my negligence. I just couldn't trust Priam that much. After all, he is part of the council. He might be one of the double agents.
My eyes started to moist as I recall all battles that I face. Now that I know Lothaire's side story, I need another factual vantage point.
"You are finally awake, A."
I ignored him to the fullest energy I can muster. I don't know whether I apologize or remain skeptical.
The doctor checked my vitals and advised me to stay for a month. I refused the tempting idea. My body isn't in good shape but I trust my willpower. I needed to meet the council. I am risking once again but I just wanted this to end.
"Please, allow yourself to regenerate your energy. Your life force is dangerously low and might put yourself in grave consequences. I will assure you that once your energy level comes back to normal, I will immediately discharge you."
I shook my head. "No. I really need to know. This might be the last–"
Without any second thoughts, Priam interfered in our conversation. He signaled something to the doctor. Seconds later, I was alone with him. My palm slowly curled into a fist.
"Back to being witchy, are we?"
He leaned on my side.
"Back to being annoyingly creepy, are we?" I fought back.
"Apri—"
I raised my left hand.
"Stop. My decision is always final and you cannot undo everything I sacrificed for. So please, until I can hold back my anger, step away. I don't need you anyway."
For a split second, he had displayed a pained expression. Is he affected by my words? I know that sometimes when I am overpowered by my emotions, I forget to filter my excruciating words.
"Is that so?"
I huffed.
"I can provide you the information, A! I can give you everything if you ask me. And even if you don't ask, I'd still follow your plea."
"This is the safest way to the truth, April. You by my side. We'll uncover the truth together." he proceeded.
I stood up in the hospital bed and faced him. "I'm sorry, Priam. But you are not the person I am looking for."
