B. Give In
I lost the track of time. I only knew when a day passed if the the sun rays from the small window goes down. I inhaled a large air to fill my lungs. Its been weeks of testing, injection and failure.
For me to survive, I made a plan for an escape. To accomplish it, I need to act like I am with them.
Pretending to be interested with the underground council and to secretly look for informations that has something to do with Lothaire were never been an easy job. In exchange of that, they'll handle me gently---it doesn't mean that they will treat me well, though. There were times when I was almost caught up doing things such as investigation, but lucky me, I managed to trick them.
Suddenly, a bunch of researchers entered the laboratory. With an almost lifeless body, they carried me to an another steel table. Tied with a three thick leather straps. Unable to move.
"W-what..." With trembling lips and dried throat, it is too painful to utter words.
"You agreed with this," a man whispered.
"Ready the serum."
"The vitals are weakening, chance of manifestation; 45 percent."
"Continue the process."
I felt three consecutive injection against my skin, second later I felt numb. It also calms every panicking fiber I have. They're speaking but I couldn't understand a single word, they sounded like busy bees. My eyes are blurry and breathing became labored. I keep on inhaling to prevent my lungs from draining. This is suffocating more than I expected.
"Prepare the insignia."
"Chance of manifestation; 65 percent."
"Heartbeat slowing, we're losing her consciousness."
"Ready for engraving."
Nahagip ng aking mata ang isang nagbabagang bakal na mayroong simbolo ng underground council, I wanted to move my body. To resist, and not to give in. Not this time. Please cooperate!
"N-no."
I tried to move my arms and reach them, to stop them from placing the metal above the left part of my chest but I couldn't move! Considering one of those fluid are for toning down my ability to fight.
"Manifestation percentage; 80 percent."
My mind is clouded. Pain conquered my body, my chest tightened. I closed my eyes tightly. I can feel something weird inside me, and I couldn't hold it anymore!
"Aaah!"
I screamed in pain. A loud thud coming from the bodies that were smashed from the walls filled my ears. That's it. The manifestation they are talking about and the sign I've been waiting for to leave this place. I untangled myself and pushed my body to stand up, I took one of the researchers' identification card to unlock the passcode. With the help of the walls I run away from the Lab---barefoot.
"The subject is running towards the north exit!" tons of guards are running behind me, the emergency alarm started to echo in the whole facility.
"Shit!"
Head spinning and different hallways. I run as fast as I could toward the south exit to prevent being cornered. I escaped through the dark forest. Cold breeze kissed my skin, the fully circled moon can see how hopeless and helpless I am right now.
I stumbled but continued. My feet stopped when it reached the huge tree in front of me. I'm quite sure about one thing, I'm in the heart of this forest. The darkness making it impossible for me to see my surroundings.
Until images flowed flawlessly, the unstoppable tears began to roll down my face when I saw Avery shouting and pointing her finger at me.
'This is your fault, April! This is your fault!'
"T-This is not r-real, s-stop," kneeling on a muddy soil, I grieved. These are all too much. Before my body hit the ground, I saw someone running.
He catched me before I fall, a weak smile formed on my lips. He found me.
"P-Priam..."
**
Priam found April unconscious in the middle of the forest near the tree. His eyes were filled with worries when he saw that April's body were full of bruises and wounds. A small smile plastered on his face, he felt relieved after seeing her heavily breathing, well at least---she's alive. He carried April and gently wiped the dirt on her cheek.
"Didn't I tell you to take care of yourself, hmm?" he whispered.
