Chapter 24: Birthday Party

You read the book Dumbledore gave you up until dinner time. You put the book under your bed and head to the great hall. Your eyes are puffy and red from that damn book.

You walk over to Cedric and sit next to him, just staring at your empty plate.

'What happened?' He asks you while looking at your eyes.

'I wish mom never sent me that letter.' You reply, still looking at your plate. 'And the rubbish thing is Dumbledore knew! He knew the entire time and never said anything. He gave me a book to read and I've been reading it for... seven hours? I don't know honestly.'

'Are you still going to the party tonight?' You just nod your head.

'I'm going back to the common room. I thought I could eat, but I can't, I'm sorry.'

You get up to leave from the table but then turn back around.

'Are you going?' You ask Cedric and he gives you a big smile. You smile back and leave the great hall.

You're headed down to the kitchens where the common room is located but someone calls out your name.

'(y/n)'

You turn around to see Malfoy. You give him a weak smile and start to cry. He walks up to you and gives you a hug. You hug him back and cry into his chest. He rubs your back and eventually you calm down.

'Do you want to talk about it?' He asks, while stroking your hair.

You shake your head. It's enough that your friends know, but you still don't trust Draco fully. Telling him could absolutely ruin everything.

You pull away from him and wipe your tears.

'Can we go somewhere?' He asks while looking around. You nod your head and you both go up to the Astronomy Tower.

You walk over to the railing and look at the Black Lake. The tower really does have a beautiful view. You let out a shaky sigh, feeling like you're about to cry again. Draco taps you on the shoulder and he's holding out a box.

'Happy Birthday.' He says smiling. You give him a look and take the box.

'How did you know?' You ask while unwrapping the tiny box. You look at the ring on your finger for a moment. It was your grandmothers, apparently she was a Hufflepuff as well. It has a badger wrapped around a yellow stone. It's quite beautiful.

You clasp your hand over your mouth when you see what Draco has given you. You look at him and give him a hug.

'It's beautiful.' You say. It's a diamond bracelet. Not too many diamonds, but the perfect amount.

He breaks away from the hug and starts to put the bracelet on your wrist. He notices the ring on your finger.

'Who got you that?' He asks.

'It was actually my grandmothers,' you say letting out a small huff.

'I thought you were muggle-born?' He asks. He backs away from you a little bit and just stares at you.

'So did I.' You say as tears fill your eyes. 'I found out today.'

'Is that why you were crying earlier?' You nod your head and look at the ground.

You look back over the balcony and let out a long sigh. The sun has gotten lower and you realize that you need to go get ready for your birthday party.

'I'm sorry, Draco, but I need to get going.' You turn away from him but he grabs a hold of your wrist, making you face him.

He rests his forehead on yours and you smile. He grabs your chin and brings you in for a kiss. It's slow and sweet. You feel a shiver down your spine and wrap your hands around his neck. He pulls you in closer to him and the kiss becomes rougher. He starts walking forward and your back hits the wall. He runs his hand down to your thighs and picks you up. You laugh a little and continue kissing him. He starts kissing your neck and you let out a small moan.

'Draco,' you say quietly, 'I really need to go.'

He looks up at you and pouts. He sets you down and you both walk back to your common room.

'What's going on?' He asks before you leave.

'Birthday party.' You say, rolling your eyes. You look around and give him a kiss before entering your common room.

'Surprise!' Everyone says in the Gryffindor common room.

You start laughing and walk over to Hermonie. She gives you a hug and so does Ron and Harry.

'You guys didn't have to do this you know.'

'Well the years almost over! So we had to.' She says smiling. You walk around and see that they really out done themselves.

There's decorations on every wall, a table with presents and a table with food and cake.

'I definitely needed this after today.'

Fred and George walk over to you and give you a hug.

'Now that the birthday girl is here.' George says.

'Lets open presents!' Fred adds.

You walk over to the table and start opening presents. Harry got you a Gryffindor necklace.

'Everyone is a Gryffindor in some way and for the time that I've gotten to know you, you show that you are one of us.'

Ron got you chocolates and other kinds of candy. Hermonie got you the book that you were looking at the last time you were in Tomes and Scrolls. Fred and George both got you some prank items from Zonko's Joke shop. You look at everyone and smile, but before you could thank them, Cedric walks over and hands you his gift. You give him a smile and its a bracelet. Underneath it has the words 'you were born to be real, not perfect.' And beside it is a date. You look at him and give him a big smile.

'I can't believe you remembered.'

'Of course I remember. And the quote goes well with that day as well.' He says smiling.

'Thank you. And thank you everyone else for the gifts. They're lovely.'

Harry puts the necklace on you he got and Cedric puts the bracelet on your wrist next to Draco's.

He looks at it for some time, but doesn't say anything. Everyone gathers around the fire place and begins eating cake.

'So tell me what the quote means.' Fred says.

'Seems quite curious to be honest.' George says.

Cedric smiles and decides to tell the story. By the end of it everyone starts laughing.

'It does fit well, don't you think? She was being absolutely embarrassing the first day I met her, she tried to be 'prefect' but I liked her true self. She's more fun.' Cedric says smiling.

'Say, (y/n) who gave you the other bracelet?' Harry asks.

'Oh, um.. mom sent it later. I guess she forgot to send it with the ring.' Harry just nods his head, but you can tell he knows you're lying.

Everyone has a blast, until it's almost time for curfew. You bid everyone goodbye and head back to your common room with Cedric.

You're both silent for a while until Cedric asks a question.

'It was Malfoy, wasn't it?'

You start to stutter a little bit, but he just laughs. Your face turns red and you hit him in the shoulder.

'Hey, I'm carrying your other gifts. Don't make me drop them.' You just shake your head and smile. 'How long has it been going on?' He continues.

'We're not together if that's what you mean.'

You both enter the common room and take your gifts from Cedric and go to your dorm. You put them under your bed and begin to get ready for bed since classes are tomorrow.

You take off your jewelry and quickly fall into a deep sleep.
