You wake up to Cedric shaking you. You immediately sit up from bed in a panic.
'What? What is it? Did something happen?' You ask while looking around the room. There's no one else in there but you and him.
'Happy Birthday!' He says while giving you a hug.
You let out a low growl and get up from bed. You walk over to the other side of your bed and put on a robe.
'You couldn't have done this later? Or not at all for that matter? You know I hate celebrating my birthday.' You walk past him and head to the common room, 'always have and always will,' you continued.
You plop down on the couch and lay your head back.
'You don't wanna go get breakfast?' He asks.
You nod your head and go back to the dorm and get changed. You both walk into the great hall together and sit at the Gryffindor table with Ron, Harry and Hermonie.
'Happy Birthday!' They all say in unison.
You look around the great hall and tell them to shush.
'Thank you, but please never say that again. You know I don't do birthdays.' You begin to put food on your plate and Hermonie speaks up.
'We need you to come to the common room at eight tonight,' she says, 'we have a surprise for you.' She has a big smile on her face but you just look at her.
'Why? I don't need a party. There's nothing big about being fifteen. It's just a number and now means I'm halfway to thirty.' You shiver just thinking about being thirty. You can't even imagine being fifteen, yet here you are now.
'Well too bad! You're getting a party and that's final.'
You roll your eyes and look at her. 'Fine, but that means I get the day to myself up until then.'
Hermonie thinks about it for a little bit, then agrees.
You all begin to eat breakfast and before you finish, the mail comes and Hedwig drops a box right in front of you, spilling your food everywhere.
You grunt in frustration and clean yourself up. You look back up and Hedwig is sitting in front of you.
'If you think you're getting a treat, you're wrong. Just eat the rest of my food.' She lets out a hoot and starts eating the food.
'Who's it from?' Harry asks while shaking his head at Hedwig.
'From my mom.. there's no one else anymore anyway.' You begin to open the little box and inside is a note. You pick up the note and begin reading.
You're silent for a while and begin to cry. Sadness, anger and happiness fill you at the same time. You hand the note to Hermonie and she begins to read it, then eventually Harry and Ron and Cedric. While they trade, you remove some tissue and see a ring underneath. You take the ring out and put it on your right ring finger. It fits perfectly.
'You're actua-'
'Shh! We'll talk about this in the common room. Cedric, do you want to come?' You ask him, but he shakes his head.
'I'm actually going to Hogsmeade to get you a late birthday present after we're done here.'
'I told you no presents.'
'Well, too bad. I'll see you guys later.' He gives you a kiss on the head and leaves.
Once Ron was finally done eating, you all head to the common room to talk about the note your mother gave you. Before you enter, you change your mind.
'Actually, let's go to Hagrid's. We haven't seen him in a while and I don't want anyone else to hear this.'
Everyone agrees and you all make your way to Hagrid's.
You knock on the door and he answers.
'Well hello there. What brings you four here?'
'We need some place to talk and I don't want anyone else to hear about it. I trust you to know, and you might be of some help.' You say nervously.
'Well.. alright. Come in then.'
You enter Hagrid's hut and pace around.
'Hagrid, do you know someone by the name Morfin Gaunt?'
Hagrid's eyes go wide when he hears this. 'Dumbledore told me about him, but I haven't heard that name in years.. why are you asking?'
You hand Hagrid the note and he just nods his head, until he gets to the end. 'Did you know about this?'
You shake your head.
'I was told that I was a muggle-born my enter life and then my mom sends me this.' You say with tears in your eyes. 'Why would she keep this from me?'
'Gaunt was a bad man. Just about as bad as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Gaunt is his uncle.. so that makes you-'
'Related to Voldemort.' You say quietly. 'So..Gaunt is my great-grandfather,' you're quiet for a while then speak up again. 'Is there something about him in the library?'
'Probably in the forbidden section. Maybe you can find a way to get there, but I don't recommend reading about him. He's a bad man.'
You sit on the couch and just think. You we're told your entire life that you were a muggle-born, but today you found out that you are related to Voldemort himself. Why would your mother keep this from you? When you got the letter to Hogwarts, she would've said something.. right?
'Then why am I in Hufflepuff? It doesn't make since.'
'Maybe Dumbledore said something to the sorting hat to keep it a secret.' Hagrid says.
You walk out the hut and wonder around, not even remembering your friends were with you. They catch up to you and try to talk to you, but you ignore them. Your feet carry you all the way to Dumbledore's office. You say the password and head up. You don't even knock on the door, you just walk in.
'Ah, miss (l/n), I guess you found out?' He says not even looking at you.
'Why didn't I know?! Why did no one tell me?! I think this is something to know about!' You yell as you walk up to his desk. You plop down on the chair and look at him.
When he finally looks up from his papers, he leans back in his chair.
'Your mother and grandmother actually attended Hogwarts you see, and when Voldemort started his hunt to kill the Potter's, he paid Gaunt a visit in Azkaban. That's when he learned about your grandmother and your mother and you. Gaunt wanted Voldemort to kill you all, so he prepared, just like he did with the Potter's. When your mother heard about this, she and your father took you to America to start over. Got a new name so you would never be found.
Your grandparents went into hiding, but Voldemort never came for them. He went to the Potter's first. After he was defeated, your parents stayed in America to keep you safe, but after your father passed, your mother had no choice but to come back here. She thought it would be okay since Voldemort is gone. And it is okay. You're protected. You have nothing to worry about.'
You're absolutely angry. Furious. Pissed. You start crying tears of anger.
'If he is gone, she could've told me about everything when I came to Hogwarts! She didn't even say anything when I went to Ilvermorny! My whole life is a lie!'
'I have something over here actually,' he gets up from his chair and heads up the stairs. He grabs a book that is covered with dust and hands it to you. 'Read this, and then you'll understand everything. Now, go enjoy your party this afternoon. Do something fun. You're a good person, (y/n). Don't let this bother you too much.' He says giving you a smile.
You growl as you leave his office and see your friends by the entrance.
'Well?' Ron says.
You just show him the book. 'I'm going back to the common room to get started with this, I'll meet you guys later.'
