Chapter 28 : Rival

Lucy's Pov

"I like you, Lucy Heartfilia"

My eyes widened, surprised by the sudden words I heard. He tightened his hold in my hand and muttered.

"And this time, I mean it"

This might be a huge misunderstanding, right? For sure, the amount of alcohol he consumed was too much for him to handle and caused him to say things like this.

"U-um.."

And now I couldn't look straight into his eyes, ugh.

"You're drunk" I mumbled. "Just like before"

Yes, it was like before right? When he was drunk and made a confession out of nowhere?

Rogue shook his head and went closer, pulling me into a hug. His broad arms wrapped around my waist causing my cheeks to turn red.

"I am being honest with my feelings" He tightened his hold around me. "I know it's too sudden but I've been thinking about it for such a long time now"

My hands were shaking.

I could feel my brain struggling to came up with a decent answer. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out.

Soft snores then followed.

I immediately thanked all the Gods I knew for saving me in such a difficult situation.

First, Sting likes me and now Rogue?

This shouldn't be happening.

In my utter surprise, his back fell on the floor dragging me along wih him. I squeaked in surprise, checking if he was awake. Luckily, he was still fast asleep.

I tried to push him away but his arms secured me in place.

I groaned in displeasure. "Lucky me, my ass"

I wriggled my body in order to break free but in my displeasure, it did not work.

"You troublesome lizards!!"

...

"I-I am very sorry for what happened, Lucy-san"

We were walking on our way back to Sabertooth when Rogue finally gathered enough courage to speak despite the thick cloud of awkwardness surrounding us.

I didn't get a wink of sleep due to uneasiness last night thanks to him.

When he woke up, he scrambled away from me keeping a two meter distance while mumbling apologies that almost sounded like an ancient chant.

"Don't mind about it" I mumbled, followed by a yawn. He have volunteered to carry my pink backpack and he looked like he was carrying a kindergarden's bag.

He finally scooted closer to me and matched my pace. "Is there anything I can do for you as an apology?"

"I told you already, it's alright" I said, looking at his worried face. Why would he bother, it's not like I'm mad at him. I'm not ignoring him either so there's nothing he should be worried about.

"I'm serious"

I stopped in my tracks. We were already near the guild and I don't want a fuss when we get there.

"Serious? About what?" I faced him, my eyebrows knitting together.

He walked towards me and declared his feelings for the third time.

"I really like you, Lucy-san"

My blood came rushing towards my face. How can he say such things suddenly like that? It's making me uneasy.

"Would you consider going out with me?"

Opening my mouth to speak, a flying Frosch sped up towards Rogue as they  stumbled on the ground due to the impact.

"Blondieee"

I felt my skin crawl as I saw Sting making his way towards us, his cheeks puffed in a pout. He was about to tackle me but I successfully dodged his embrace.

"Why are you here?" I asked.

His tired look suddenly became all bubbly and flowery, swooning infront of me. "I came back because I missed you~"

I took a step back. "Aren't you supposed to be attending a meeting or something? You ditched that to come here?"

He gave me an offended look."Of course not! When we were on our way, Minerva-san said she will take care of it so I can sit back and relax."

I gave him a plain look. "I see."

With that, I continued to walk towards the guild and Rogue stood beside me. We heard Sting cried out. "How cold!"

Frosch left Rogue's arms and jumped onto mine. He smiled cutely. "Welcome home, Fairy-san!"

I grinned at him cheekily. "We're home, Frosch"

"Sting-kunnn!" Lector zoomed towards Sting who was walking behind us. He paused at us for a moment. "Welcome back Rogue-kun, Lucy-san! The job went well it seems, yes?"

I nodded at him and smoothened the creaks on his navy blue vest. "We should all go together in a job next time, it would be fun"

"Yes it would~!" Sting cooed and popped up beside me. "You know what's more fun? You and I together al--"

"Oh, shut up!"

Rogue's Pov

Lucy-san was dragged away by Yukino as we entered the guild. To my surprise, Sting stayed on my side with a serious face plastered on.

"What?" I asked, noticing his stiff face. He puffed his cheeks into a pout. I rolled my eyes at the childish quip.

"Please don't get in my way" he said, crossing his arms over his chest. Lector landed on his head and looked clueless at his partner's words. "Lucy-san is mine"

"She's not yours" I muttered, eyebrows meeting. "I confessed on her before you did"

His jaw dropped open, not believing the words I have said. "You're lying"

I shrugged my shoulders. "Plain truth, brother."

He was about to retort back but stopped. He continued pouting like a child that was not given a candy like everyone else does.

"You like her?" Sting asked. I nodded. "I like her too, Sting"

"I hate your straightforwardness"

I snickered.

He shook his head and crossed his arms. "I hate you Rogue"

"I hate you too"

"So what are we, like, rivals or something?

"Rivals since first day bro"

"Yeah" I laughed. "I felt that too"
