Opening the windows and breathing in the scent of soil after the rain Sala smiled thinking of what the day had to offer. Today was the day he was going to execute his plan and nothing was going to stand in his way. The detectives seemed to be focused elsewhere which gave him an advantage. He dressed up in simple casual clothes and drove in the direction of the station. He sang along to Dolly Parton's songs as he went smoothly through the highway. It wasn't yet packed with cars because it was too early for people to start going to work. Sala drove for about 15 minutes and finally arrived at the station. He got out of his car and opened the trunk of his car like someone who was fixing it or checking the engine. He stayed at it for a while until he was approached by a female officer
"Sir good morning but this is not the place to fix your car" she said as she walked to him. He shifted his attention to her
"Good morning to you too. Forgive me but my car heated up I seem to have forgotten to put water in my radiator " he said and peeped into his engine and back at the officer "i am terribly sorry" he added
"Its not a problem, how can I help?" she asked
"Water I would like at least 2 litres of water" replied Sala
"Oh I would really love to help but I have to go for my shift at the roadblock but you can ask at the reception they will help you" she advised
"Thank you ma'am take care" he said smiling
"You too" she replied as she headed to her car
That wasn't so hard, was it? He thought as he closed his trunk and walked towards the reception area
"Good morning madam" Sala greeted the receptionist
"Morning how may I help you" she asked in a friendly manner
"Well I have come to report a case, my radiator just ran out of water" he said jokingly and she chuckled
"Very funny" she said "please put your name and sign here" she added handing him a book and pen
"And here I thought doctors were the only ones with bad handwriting" he joked
"You have no idea how wrong you were, you should see mine you'll be shocked" she responded nicely
"Well I guess that makes two of us then" replied Sala smiling
"The rest room is down the hall fifth door to your left, that's where you'll get water" she directed
"Thank you" he said and walked away calmly
The station was still quiet people were just beginning to come in. As it is detectives were usually the last people to arrive at the station due to their narcissist traits. At this hour the ordinary officers were the ones you bumped into. Sala got into the rest room and decided to relieve himself of the polluted body fluids that had been bothering him since morning. He took his time to relieve himself and before he was done someone took the spot next to him.
"Morning" the man said and Sala looked at him then back into the urinary
"Good morning" replied Sala
"I haven't seen you around here are you a rookie?" asked Don
"No I just came here to relieve myself I'm a passer-by and this was the safest place I knew I wuld take a piss and not be robbed" he said
"Ha ha very funny, well you never know the psycho standing next to you, nowhere is safe" Don joked around "anyway take care man" he added and left the rest room
Very true detective, very true he thought as he zipped up his pants. He paused and listened for incoming footsteps and heard none then went to the compartments with the toilet seats. He looked up, saw the smoke detectors and smiled. He closed the door to the compartment he was in and took out a black rectangular object from his pocket and stuck in under the pipe on the back of the toilet seat then turned on a timer. He did that in every compartment and then left the restroom. He thanked the receptionist and signed out. Sala drove into town headed for the tailor's building, collected his order and went back home. After closing the door Sala put the box on his bed and opened it. Inside was a neat and very convincing look alike of local police uniform.
"Wonderful" he smiled
He removed the clothes he was wearing and changed into the police uniform. It was perfect and suited him too well. He looked at himself in the mirror admiring the work of his dear friend, such an artist he was so good there was nothing he couldn't make. Putting his glock 22 in its holster he left his apartment. He got into his car and drove slowly headed for the CBD. Sala would look at his watch here and there and at some point he looked at it and accelerated his vehicle.
He arrived at the station and parked in front of a coffee shop opposite the station. He watched the entrance closely like he was waiting for something to happen. He looked at his watch once more and thereafter wore his police hat, left the car and walked towards the station. As he got closer a siren came from the station and the whole place was clouded with smoke. Officers ran in and out, there was a lot of chaos and there he ceased the opportunity and got in. As he walked he made sure to avoid every camera then halfway down the hall he bumped into John and they looked at each other for a split second but the detective just apologised and proceeded his journey
That was a close one he thought as he took a turn into the hallway with the witness protection rooms. He passed three doors and stopped at the forth one. Sala walked into the room and there unarmed, unguarded utterly vulnerable Shilow sat on a chair facing the door. She lifted her head up and froze in horror. Was this really happening or was it just a dream? Are they just look alikes or it was the end of the road for her? These questions raced through her mind as her heart beat increased by the second.
"Good afternoon madam are you enjoying your stay here?" Sala asked with a lot of sarcasm in his tone
"Please, I didn't tell them anything" she said trembling and tears already flooding her eyes
"Yet" Sala responded
"No I won't say anything I promise, please let me live" she begged
"One can't be too careful ey" he replied pulling out his gloc.
Shilow's eyes opened wide and when she was about to scream she was silenced by a bullet which went through her forehead and the second one through her heart. He then shot her on both knees. After this he left the building leaving the parking lot swarmed with fire fighters and cops.
"Johnny!!" Carol yelled in all that disorder
"Yes, what is it?" replied the detective
"Go and get Shilow, she's in the witness protection room" she said
"What about" he was cut short
"He had gone to arrange a lawyer for her so he left her there" she said
Johnny rushed back into the station headed for the witness protection rooms. He went straight to Shilow's room and opened the door. What he saw nearly stopped his heart.
