Friday: A past revealed

"Could there be a slight chance that you hit him?" asked Fitz as he sipped his cup of coffee

"No, I heard the bullet hit a tree, I missed" said Richard

"How can you even hear that, is that even possible" Don argued

"I have worked with guns longer than you think" replied Richard

"You were a doctor" said Don

"Was I born a doctor?" Richard rudely asked

"Look guys no need to dwell on useless facts if Richard is sure he did not hit him, he did not" Casey said putting to rest the unnecessary questions

"Sala is nothing but a coward, I could see it in his eyes" Richard said

"A coward who killed over ten people in three weeks" commented Gerald

"Yes, he is a coward but he is very intelligent and careful so do not underestimate him one bit" advised Richard "he has got everything he is doing planned" he added

"So what went wrong this time?" asked Jessica

"The murder at the fuel station was not part of his plan so he got sloppy, I have noticed that if he carefully plans, his things run smoothly but if he doesn't and has to improvise he becomes sloppy" he replied

"So he is an organised or disorganised killer"  asked Casey

"Organised but we can make him dis organised" said Richard

"How?" asked Johnny

"We have to rush him" he answered "whatever he has planned is not going to change however we have to disrupt his plans till he gets pissed. We have to ridicule his methods and intelligence which will push him to the extent of wanting to commit the ultimate murder and bang we roast his ass" he concluded with a grin

"Wow, I have got to hand it to you man you are an intellect" Gerald complimented

"It's our turn always be one step ahead of him" Fitz said

"Agreed" Johnny said "so we start with the map, there are places we had tagged down to be the possible places he would strike next" he added

"Here is the map" Sanchez said placing it on the table

"This guy's game is all about ridiculing us, he is trying to prove that we can not protect everyone" Johnny said "all the places he murdered people have police patrolling all day and night except for one place Spring" he added

"Who was killed there?" asked Fitz

"Samuel Sala" replied Casey

"He must have some relation with Augustine" said Richard

"Its his uncle" stated Don

"Ohww I could have sworn they bear a very obvious resemblance" Richard commented "Sala's father was the twin brother of Samuel. Sala's father was found burnt to death in his shack ten years ago" he added

"Did they know who did it?" asked Fitz

"The police suspected some rebels who lived in the nearby forest" replied Richard

"I find that hard to believe was he a politician?" mentioned Gerald

"Me too, I am not sure I think we have to go and find out" said Richard

"You will go with Gerald and Jessica to see what you can get while we pin point his next strike" Johnny said and Richard and friends left.

The drive to the Sala's was a bit long since they took the longer route in order to avoid traffic. At this hour the main roads were packed with vehicles headed in all sorts of directions. It was a Friday.

"Jess what's the matter you seem troubled?" asked Gerald in a concerned manner

"You know, I met a girl at the fuel station last night who had dreams of becoming a detective but never saw them through. When I asked her why she did not, you know what she said to me" she replied

"No what did she say?" asked Richard

"She said she wanted to live long enough to see her grandchildren" said Jessica

"Ohww she" Gerald was cut off before completing his sentence

"It got me wondering am I going to live long enough to see mine?" she asked and continued talking"what of a life is this where you have to look over your shoulder wherever you go, honestly guys I don't want to die young"

There was silence for a few seconds and Gerald broke it

"I am not God who sees all but one thing I know is you are a protector of the lives of others and being that God will not just let your life be taken just like that" he said comforting her

"Gerald" she said

"Yes Jess" he replied

"Promise never to leave me behind" she said

He looked at her smiled and said "I promise"

The rest of the ride was quiet but peaceful. They finally arrived at Samuel's house and were welcomed warmly.

"To what do I owe this visit?" asked Thomas Sala

"We think we know who killed your father" said Richard and Thomas frowned

"Who is he?" he asked with curiosity in his voice

"Your cousin Augustine Sala" said Gerald

"Augustine did he not disappear the day his father died" Michelle intruded into their conversation

"No he did not, I found some papers in father's room that mentioned him being adopted" Thomas said

"But he is our own blood how could father let him live with strangers" said Michelle as she came and sat next to her brother

"I asked him the same question and what he told me made me not to talk about it again" replied Thomas

"What did he say" enquired Jessica

"Augustine is the one who burnt uncle Coneleus" said Thomas shocking Michelle with his words

"And you believed him Thom" Michelle said

"Our father was anything but a lair he was not" Thomas said

"What if he was lying Thom" protested his sister

"Because Augustine had motive to kill him okay, uncle Coneleus abused his wife because of other women younger than her, he ill treated her to the extent of killing her and all this happened before our cousin's eyes" he cleared his throat "after Augustine was adopted dad went to visit him and the boy admitted doing it and even narrated how he did it. He also promised father that he was going to take away everything from him since he had done nothing when his mother was suffering, so he had no choice but to lie to us about Augustine" he concluded.

This news left everyone in the room shocked to the core. Michelle could neither speak nor cry she was just speechless.

"Ohw I am very sorry to hear that" Richard said

"No need to be, Coneleus was a cruel man, honestly he deserved it" Thomas commented

"I couldn't agree more" Jessica said

"Is there anything else you want to tell us?" asked Gerald

"Yes, Coneleus was not the only one burnt alive that night he was with his mistress, Michelle go upstairs and tend to mom please" he said and his sister left the room "This part will require us to be outside, you need to know how he tortured them before burning them" he added and they went to speak in the detectives' car

That detective Richard, there is something about him that doesn't sit right with me ,Sala thought as he sat on his rocking chair looking at his chess board. He moved a piece then stopped to think

"Whoever you are or wherever you come from, no one humiliates August Sala and gets away with it, I will find your weakness mon ami Richard and I will exploit it badly" he thought outloud.
