Part Thirteen: An 'Awkward' Atmosphere

Myself, Luna and Alyssa spent what seemed like a little longer than five minutes talking to each other, when suddenly the train's horn blew and steam emerged from the small chimney planted on top of the drivers carriage. 

"I guess that's our cue to get ready to go?" I asked, picking up my luggage from off the cart and piling it in my arms. 

"I guess so!" Luna cheered, also stacking her luggage. 

"This is SO exciting! Can you believe it, we're off to Hogwarts, THE Hogwarts!" Lyssa excitedly screeched. 

Alyssa was already ahead of myself and Luna with getting on the train. We both shrugged, laughed and then prepared ourselves to step onto the train, when suddenly I heard full speed running towards us. Looking over I saw another girl sprinting, trying her hardest not to knock her luggage everywhere, having a quick reflex, I jumped up onto the platform as the girls cart gained speed and was throttling full speed towards Luna, I grabbed her arm and pulled her into the entrance and the girl managed to catch up to her getaway cart. 

The girl was now catching her breath as she looked up and made eye contact with me, she panicked as she heard the second horn from the train blare. 

"Oh no, no no no, I'm not late am I?" The girl panicked even more, now scurrying to gather all her luggage. 

She held out her owl in a desperate manner towards me and I smiled down at her, before I got a chance to, take it in a polite gesture, she asked if I could hold it for her as she collected the rest of her stuff, I nodded and the girl gave me an appreciative smile. 

I placed her owl in our carriage that was ironically, right next to me at the time, and further helped her gather her luggage up, before offering her my hand, and as she took it, I helped her up onto the high platform, she nodded at me in thanks. 

The girl also had long, but semi-light brown hair, and her eyes were a darker shade. She wore hoops in her ears, her style too, was very unique. She wore a leather jacket that ended just past her waist and a white crop top sitting comfy underneath, her jeans were a light blue with two slits that were across both of her knees and to complete her outfit, were black boots. She seemed like the kind of girl who had similar style to me and that made her even more interesting. 

I headed to my carriage and closed the door once I knew that she would be okay finding a carriage to sit in, and also that she was comfortable with the amount of items she was carrying. I sat down next to the window, with both Lyssa and Luna across from me, we all smiled at each other and got cozy. We started talking about our home lives and what we loved to do in our spare time and as we all looked out the window, the train was preparing to leave. 

Last minute kids and teenagers were running for the doors of the train and jumping in, struggling to keep hold of all their equipment, I watched with a huge smile spread across my face, and all of a sudden, I knew that there was something for me at Hogwarts. 

Everyone managed to make it on in time and then the train juddered. We were now on the move. I was about to rest my head against the window pane when I heard a small knock at the door of our carriage. Being that Luna was the closest to the door, she opened it and standing there was the girl I helped, with her luggage piled in her arms still, she smiled awkwardly. 

"Hi, sorry, me again. Um..." The girl paused and smiled, "Have you possibly got room for another?" she asked and I felt another smile creep onto my face. 

"Of course we have. Make yourself comfortable" I signalled the free spaces left in our carriage, "Plenty of room here". 

The girl eventually found somewhere to put her equipment and she decided to take a seat next to me, before turning towards me and putting her hand out. 

"I'm Gabriella, by the way" I took her hand and shook it lightly. I introduced myself and so did Lyssa and Luna.

As we all settled down, I looked over towards the carriage door once more and I watched as two female silhouettes walked past together, and I heard mumbles like they were talking, but the mumbles didn't sound too impressed. 

"This is unbelievable!" One of the girls half-whispered and half-exclaimed. "There's meant to be enough seating for those of us who are new to Hogwarts, but that isn't exactly the case now, is it?" 

"If we need to, we'll just kick someone or a few people out of their seats, its no big deal" the other girl said. 

I watched as their silhouettes disappeared from the window of our carriage door. I was no longer tired and decided to pull out a book that I had just started reading. I snuggled into the corner, pulling my feet up and preparing to pick up where I left off, when I heard the same two voices making their way back towards our carriage. I decided to peek over the top of the book I was reading towards the carriage door once more, when I found myself being stared at right back. 

One of the girls had their hands against the glass and was now looking in. That was when I heard the girls talk to each other once more. 

"Looks like there's not many people in this one" The silhouette peeking through the window assumed, I saw her breath against the glass. 

"Lex, we can't just barge in, it's not right-" The other girl tried to compromise. 

"Oh yeah, Amber? Watch this." I heard the girl reply cockily and the door slid right open. 

I tried not to stare, but I was now looking right at the window peeper, so out of awkwardness, I just smiled and waved. 

"Well, this is an awkward encounter" The blonde hair and green eyed girl mumbled. It wasn't like I could hear her or anything. 

"I am really sorry" The second girl, 'Amber' , apologised whilst stepping in front of her friend. She glared over at her and proceeded to turn her head back towards me with an awkward half-smile formed on her face. She began to speak for the both of them. 

"I know that my friend here" she pointed at 'Lex', "Didn't really make a great first impression. We were wondering if maybe you could spare us your few free seats? There's no other spaces free, you see." she looked at me, hopeful. 

I shifted into an upright position and looked at the both of them. They were incredibly pretty. 

"Sure, I can do that." I responded, whilst looking at the other girls for permission. All nodded in agreement. 

"Oh! Thank you so much!" the brown haired girl sighed with relief.

She took a seat next to Gabriella whilst the other occupied the seat next to Luna. We all looked around at each other awkwardly before one of us spoke up. 

"My names Amber, this is Lex" Amber pointed at herself and Lex, who just shrugged and forced out a smile. 

Amber was a pretty girl, long brown hair, and beautiful brown eyes. She wore a dark plum crop top and black jeans, on her head rested a red bandanna, her black converse completed her look entirely. 

Lex on the other hand was blonde, and the ONLY blonde girl in our carriage, her hair was just past shoulder length and her eyes as green as emeralds. A black dress flowed from its skirt and on her feet, were platformed black boots, her choker really spiced up her outfit overall. 

We all spent the rest of the train ride to Hogwarts talking about what we think our lives there would be like and how we would all like to get to know each other better. We talked about Lex and Amber's friendship and how they met, along with how I met Alyssa, Luna and Gabriella. There were jokes cracked and laughs erupted. 

And for once, I felt like I really had people that I would get the luckiest chance to call my friends in time.

I hoped that maybe, just maybe, we'd stick together after this, and become the best of friends. 

Looking over, I saw that eventually the other girls had fallen asleep and I finally got to rest my head against the window pane, and watch the sun set and the greenery pass by. 

My new life was starting now.
