Skin as red as vermillion,
Three eyes full of benevolence,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who gives us life.

Upon whose head resides a crown ornate,
His hands hold the water-lilies, blessing his worshippers,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who is the lord of day and light.

Depicted with the dharmachakra, the cycle of righteousness,
Standing upon a chariot pulled by horses seven,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He whose horses denote the seven days of a week.

Who is the lord of the Simha, the lion,
And is the chief of Navagrahas, the nine planets,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who is the embodiment of kingly grace.

Who is the son of sage Kashyap and his wife Aditi,
Whose wives are Chhaya and Saranyu,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who is known by innumerous names in numerous lands.

Who fathered Manu, Yama and Karna,
Whose children are Sugriva, Shani and Tapati,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who gives us sustenance and life.

Whose every ray is a source of life,
Without whom the world would cease,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who protects us from every disease.

Who spreads colour across the world,
The one whom the elements praise,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who is the key to life's exsistence.

Who burns away for eternity,
To heed to our greatest needs,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who is the greatest donor of all.

Who gives us wisdom and enlightenment,
Who is the path to realising the Brahman, the Supreme,
I bow down to lord Surya,
He who is the best gift of the lord.

(Old Version)

I praise thee,
O, the giver of life,
You, who shine with eternal grace,
The epitome of kingly power.

I praise thee,
O, the giver of life,
You, who are known by innumerous names in numerous lands,
The greatness of God personified.

I praise thee,
O, the giver of life,
You, who rise in the east,

Filling the world with warmth and colour.

I praise thee,
O, the giver of life,
You, without whom the world is but a wasteland,
No life is possible without your consent.

I praise thee,
O, the giver of life,
You, Surya to whom even the elements bow,
You, the greatest donor of all.

I praise thee,
O, the giver of life,
You, O Surya, are the kindest of the kind,
Burning away for eternity, heeding to our greatest need.

Note; Surya Deva, also known as Suraya or Phra Athit, is the main solar deity in Hinduism. He is also commonly referred to as the Sun.
The main deity of the Navagrahas or the Nine Planets of Hindu Astrology as well, he is also considered as one of the Navagrahas.

Personally, this might be my favourite poem, because I tried to combine both mythology and science in this one. Hope you can find all the references!
