Salutations to the Mistress of Joy,
Who is the reason for earth's glee,
Salutations to the great sorceress,
She who leads the House of Life.

The youngest of all Nut's children,
You are the quintessence of your mother's compassion,
You heed to every man in need,
Behold Nebet-Het, the great goddess!

You are the eternal maiden,
Slender like the palm,
Your hair flows like the currents of Nile,
While your gaze is as luminous as the sun.

You are the most loyal,
Greatest of all sisters,
You left your husband for the wrong he did,
And came to aid your sister.

You are the passage,
Through which we will pass one day,
You lead the mind from darkness to light,
Hail Nebet-Het, she who bestows liberation!

You are the one who created the sky,
Festooned it with comets and stars,
You are the one for whom the sun shines each day,
And the moon rises in its complete glory.

You bring both pain and joy,
Darkness and light both reside in you,
You are the consolation to those in mourning,
And the smile of the mother after labour.

You are the one who taught us to write,
You reside in every tale and ballad,
You are the inspiration of every artist,
Hail Nebet-Het, the mother of creation!

You are the beloved wife of Sutekh,
The great lord of drunkenness,
He who takes us to unfathomable heights of divine ecstasy,
He who is a great mystery.

You are the mother of Anupu,
The beautiful guardian of the west,
He who heals the pain of both the body and the soul,
Hail Anupu, the great healer!

You are the sister of Aeset,
And to that of the good lord Ausar,
She, who bestows upon us the blessing of love,
He, who is the great beneficent being.

You are the paradigm of love,
Of all its varied and wondrous forms,
You are the strength hidden in every lover's heart,
And you know its every secret too.

You are the epitome of wisdom,
There is none like you in this world,
Your strength of mind is unlike any other,
Hail Nebet-Het, she who leads the great Ennead!

You let not a tear fall in vain,
You renew the hopes of this heart so dead,
You provide great peace to the mind,
Hail Nebet-Het, the lady of renewal!

You are in midst of the rivers,

Which soothe the parched throat,
You are here with us in the dead of night,
Watching over your sleeping children.

Like a mother, you hold our hand,
When it is our time to leave,
You embrace us and cry in our woe,
When we weep silently with our family.

You are the stillness of the desert,
And the storms that accompany it,
You protect us from great perils,
But destroy if in need.

You are ever eternal,
There is no end to your existence,
Your name may change, so might your form,
But thou shall never be truly forgotten.

You are the queen of hearts,
The great lady of contradictions,
I pray to you earnestly,
That may you come and lead me to hereafter just as you had delivered me at birth.

Thus here ends the hymn to the great mother,
She who is in every particle of this world,
May you protect us always,
Such I plead to her.

***

The earth is all,
But a container of water,
The life-giving fluid,
Which keeps us going.

The beauty of the world,
Is denoted by the oceans and seas,
They are a mystery,
Who knows their depths?

To some they are sources,
Of beguiling inspiration,
To others, they are but,
A source of livelihood.

Life too was first born,
In the depths of the first ocean,
Without the blue,
No life is possible.

But when I stare out at the vast blue,
My mind wanders off to an unknown ecstasy,
I feel so close,
Close to divinity.

I wonder at the prowess,
Of the simple pool,
At one moment it nourishes,
The other it kills.

How enchanting I find it,
To every mortal mind,
At one moment we create,
The other we destroy.

And when I close my eyes,
I see her, a lady dancing amongst the waves,
I see her in complete glory,
Teaching the waves her essence.

She is who one day,
I'd submerge into,
She is a part of our true home,
A symbol of liberation, of moksha or the freedom of the soul.

She is whom we call,
Our final destination,
The guide of our greatest tour,
There's no pain, no fear as long as she holds our arms.

That is what Nephthys is,
The life of all the world,
That is what Nephthys is,
The giver of living and life.
That is what Nephthys is,
The guide of both dead and alive.

Note; Nephthys or Nebet-Het in ancient Egyptian was a goddess in ancient Egyptian religion. A member of the Great Ennead of Heliopolis in Egyptian mythology, she was a daughter of Nut and Geb( others being Osiris, Horus the Elder, Set and Isis). Nephthys is a protective goddess who symbolizes the death experience, just as Isis represented the birth experience. It is Nephthys who assists Isis in gathering and mourning the dismembered portions of the body of Osiris after his murder by the envious Set. Nephthys also serves as the nursemaid and watchful guardian of the infant Horus. The Pyramid Texts refer to Isis as the "birth-mother" and to Nephthys as the "nursing-mother" of Horus. just as the pylons and wall protected the inner temple, Nephthys protected the souls of the people. She was associated with death and decay from an early period and was regularly invoked during funeral services. Professional mourners at Egyptian funerals were known as "Hawks of Nephthys" and she is one of the four goddesses (along with Isis, Selket, and Neith) whose images were found in the tomb of Tutankhamun as guardians of his canopic vessels.

Personally, she might be the divine being with whom I have connected the most, even more than Isis, perhaps. But one cannot actually separate these two sisters, for both are an inseparable part of the creation; life and death. Shivran86 don't you think our relationship is quite like theirs?
