Salutations to the changeless one,
She in whom resides truth,
Salutations to the undeviating one,
She who sustains the sun.Radiant lady of upright frame,
Upon whose head flies the ostrich feather,
You who are said to be Aset herself,
In the holy inscriptions of Denderah. You are the keeper of order,
The knower of all truth and lie,
You keep the balance in the cosmos,
Vanquishing evil when it raises its head. You reside in us as honesty,
A virtue of great power,
Oh mother, may we never leave your path,
Resist us from falling into the clutches of the liars. You are the goddess of truthfulness,
And its epitome as well,
With a flick of your fingers,The seasons change as well.
You are enforcer of harmony,
You keep every land in peace,
But why does violence roam so freely these days,
What crime have we committed, to earn your wrath?Your magnificence is not limited to this mortal realm,
But is prevalent in the underworld as well,
Your feather weighs the hearts of the dead,
To know wether they have lived by virtue or sin.Djehuty is your beloved spouse,
The one who blessed us with the art of writing,
With whom you stand upon either side of Ra's barque,
Defending it from darkness. You are the epitome of Supreme,
One of its greatest forms,
You are celebrated throughout the world,
For none can deny you greatness. You are the one who sustains the sun,
You brought forth its creation too,
You are the greatest gift humanity has got,
Hail the great mother Ma'at!You are the lady of justice and morality,
Never shall you tolerate an inequity,
To befall upon any of your children,
For we are all equal in your eyes. You are the eternal being,
From whom life came to be,
You preserved it for uncountable centuries,
One day when it is time, you shall bring forth its end as well. You are the breath from where we came,
To fulfill the duties given,
Mother, we shall return to you,
As soon as our work here is complete. Thus here ends the hymn to the great mother,
She who is the epitome of order,
May she return the same back to this warring world,
That is my only wish to her.***
Note; Ma'at is the goddess of truth, justice, wisdom, the stars, law, morality, order, harmony, the seasons, and cosmic balance. Maat was both the goddess and the personification of truth and justice. Her ostrich feather represents truth.
