The battle part 4

Gabrielle POV-

As the door opens back to the battle field...

"Jack it wasn't funny. You let me walk home with my hair like that. You didn't warn me that I had half a tree of leaves sticking out my hair."

Trust Jack to remember something from years ago to drain the tension out of me. He always seems to know just what I need. I mean he use to be pretty good about that before we... But since we reunited he seems to have to perfected his Gabrielle radar. I just can't help loving him for that.

"Gabrielle... You have to admit it was funny. It wasn't my idea to roll down the hill into that pile of leaves you know."

Of course it was mine. I never said I always had the smartest ideas. Of course he didn't talk me out of it either.

"But Jack my hair ended up all over the place and when we got home... Cassie thought I was wearing a Halloween costume!"

"Gabrielle you looked so cute I couldn't help it."

"She thought I was dressing as a TREE."

But really I can't help laughing with him. It was funny really. When Cassie asked why I was using brown leaves instead of green if I was going to dress up as a tree..  It was just so....

"I love you Gabrielle."

"I love you to Jack."

Well I don't hear any yelling. No one waiting in the hall to tell us to just leave. That's good right?

"Hello, can we come back in now?"

"Yes Gabrielle. Why don't you guys hang up your coats and join your father and I in the living room."

Ok, that's better then I feared. She sounded calm.... but I still haven't heard Dad say anything. Maybe we should keep our jackets just in case we need to leave quickly...

"Gabrielle you can come in. We are not going to yell anymore. We just want to calmly talk about this. OK baby?"

Ok so Dad has calmed down at least enough to be civil. That's a good thing. He didn't call his buddies in the FBI to have Jack arrested or something. Progress.

"Here Gabrielle, let me have your coat. Let's give them a chance."

Jack has grown so much now. I love how calm he can remain in these situations. I mean he is still a goof sometimes. But now when it's something serious he just knows to be serious. He really has become perfect to me.

"Gabrielle, Jack... Thank you for coming back. I think we got off to a bad start for this conversation. We do have somethings to talk about but we want to do it calmly."

"That's ok Mam. I know this is probably a shock to you. I really wish there was a way to warn you... but honestly can you blame us for deciding to keep it to ourselves until we were ready to tell you?

"No Jack. Your right. You did have your reasons. I am not saying I am happy to hear that you two have been hiding and running around behind our backs for over a month... But I understand why from your point of view."

Ok... I think Mom has thawed a bit at least. That was all I hoped for in this first meeting really. I just hoped I could get Mom neutral enough to wait and see. Enough so we could show them how much we changed and how right we are. Small steps.

"Jack. I am sorry for what I said. No, let me honest. I am sorry for a lot of what I said. But either way I shouldn't have said those things to you like that."
