Gabrielle POV-
Well it's time. We are leaving. We just swung by and said good by to our parents and we have left Springfield. We currently on our way out of Missouri only fifteen miles until we officially leave our state, our home for all our known lives. I really don't remember Nevada to much anymore. I am still a little sad.. but I am excited too.
I admit I did have my little breakdowns the last few days. Everything just kind of hit me. We were really leaving. I just really felt it. Thank God I have Jack. He never let me get down. He knew just how to let me release my feelings without really losing it. He was my rock through all this.
I know he was also feeling the same things. I could see it sometimes when he would just stare at things. Our coffee shop that we visited so many times. The front of Target when we had to run in for toothpaste to bring. The gate to my parents community. The front of his parents house. The little things that hold so many memories for us. He never stared for long, but I could see it in his eyes for those few seconds.
But of course he never broke down. He stayed strong... probably for me. He would hold me and talk about the past, our memories and remind me of how we will make new ones, even better ones in the future. He would cheer me up and in a way cheer himself up at the same time.
I think I finally finished my crying last night when we laid down on the mattress in his apartment for the last time. Like I said, it wasn't a sob fest. I just cried for the end of the past. He just held me and whispered he loved me and we would face the future together. No matter what happens, we will be together. I realized then... that it was enough. Being together was enough for me.
Our parents will be here. We will talk to them often and see them as much as possible. We will keep in contact with our friends. I mean half of them have already left and we are still friends so the distance is not going to change that. Springfield may have been home for Gabrielle Moses, but now home is with Jack for Gabrielle Brinkmen.
Oh hey, why is Jack pulling over. Did we forget something? Is he having second thoughts? We were just leaving Missouri.
"Gabrielle will you take a picture with me?"
"Here Jack?"
"Yes, trust me."
"Always"
That was sweet. A picture of us in front of the sign. I think I will ask him to print one we can put it on the wall. Jack and Gab standing in front of the sign that says "Leaving Missouri. Come back soon."
I really am ready. The further we get the more excited I am about the future. Watch out world the Brinkmen's are on their way.
Jack POV-
Here we go. We have left Missouri for new pastures. I think Gabrielle is finally ok with it happening. She was actually better then I thought she would be the last few days. I mean of course she cried. She wouldn't be Gabrielle without crying. But it wasn't the losing it crying fits that I was expecting when it really hit her. I guess she really has grown up as much as I have.
I admit I was a little sentimental myself the last few days. I mean it is a big deal. We are leaving the only home we have ever known. We are ready though. It's time for us to go on to the next chapter in our lives. We are together. We have a destination. We have a new home awaiting us.
The area does look nice from the two days we spent there finding an apartment. We didn't get to look around a lot, but we will have plenty of time to explore. I admit I worry about the winter. Missouri can get cold in the winter, but this is the Northeast. They can have cold for months at a time. We may need more winter clothes. I will talk about that with Gabrielle later.
Maybe not to many new clothes though. I mean there is a certain appeal to having Gabrielle in my arms for warmth. We will have to find that happy medium. Plus we are only an hour or two from some good Snowboarding. It's won't be Colorado, but it will be cool to have it that close. Both Gabrielle and I enjoy it. We will have to buy some gear.
This is nice. We are just driving along, light music playing, holding hands. There is a nice silence of just being together. This is a great way to start the trip.
"Jack?"
Ok, there went that nice silence.
"Yes Gabrielle?
"I love you you know."
Ok, that is worth the breaking of the silence.
"I love you too sweetheart."
"I just want you to know I am happy and excited to be doing this with you. I dreamed that we would do this one day. Moving away on our own. Creating our own lives together. I am just glad that everything has worked out as it has. I don't want to even think about what it would be like if I didn't have you."
"Gabrielle I want you to look at your hand. Do you see that shiny band on your finger?"
"Yes Jack."
"Ok now do you feel that matching ring on my finger?"
"Yes Jack."
"Gabrielle, those mean that you will never have to worry about that. I am yours and you are mine always."
"I love you Jack Brinkmen."
"and I love you Gabrielle Brinkmen."
"So what do you want to have for dinner? Do you know if there are any good sushi places we could try where you planned the first stop?"
"Gabrielle it's 9:15 in the morning."
"Well it's never to early to think about where your taking me out for dinner. A girl has needs and you have to keep your wife happy and fed."
Somethings will never change. I am so glad that my Gabrielle is one of them.
