Jack POV-
Home sweet home for a few days. We had a wonderful honeymoon. Everything went perfect. I am happy for that. I really wanted to Gabrielle the perfect time before she has to buckle down school again. She is entering actual med school now. I expect this is going to be very tough for her in the beginning. I know my Gab can handle it. I am just going to have to make sure that she knows she can handle it. That's the cheerleader husband's job.
I was glad that Madalyn was on time getting to the airport in Gabrielle's jeep. It would have been annoying if we were stuck sitting in the airport waiting on Madalyn time. She isn't always the most punctual. But she came through.
The next few days are going to be busy. Tomorrow we have to do Gabrielle's name change. She is really really pushing for that asap. Taking my name seems very important to her. I tried saying that we can do it as we go but she is determined to get it done now. I admit I like the idea. Hey, it will make her happy so we will get it done.
We discussed it a lot on the plane and later tonight we are going to do a video to put up on both our channels. Just a hello to everyone and letting them know that we are going to do a Q&A tomorrow evening. Gabrielle wants to upload the video to her channel at the same time she changes the name tonight. That really should end anyone that is still wondering if we are pranking them with the wedding thing.
This week is going to be hard because now that we are back you really feel that you are getting ready to leave the nest. We are moving out on our own. I know we both talk about how we moved out on are own a few years ago when we went to college, but this is different.
We are moving across the country. This won't be a twenty minute drive back to either of our families. I am not sure it has really hit Gabrielle yet but I know it will. But I know Gabrielle will be ok in the end. She is stronger then she thinks.
I haven't told her about the surprise in September. Cassie and her parents are keeping it quiet. Cassie has a meet on the third weekend after labor day that is only going to be an hour and a half away. I already booked us a motel room for Friday and Saturday night for that weekend. We are going to surprise Gabrielle.
Then they are going to come back and stay in our new town for a week to visit and see Gabrielle's new school. I really think that will help. I am betting that being away from everyone will really hit that third week of school. Our first week there we will be busy getting use to the new area and the college. Then the first two weeks of school will be keeping her mind majorly occupied as she gets use to it.
It will be that third week that I think she will get homesick. That's when I will surprise her with the visit that weekend and then the next week. I know I could keep her out of a funk if I had to do it alone. It's just that the meet kind of worked out perfectly.
I actually have two meetings in person that second week in September. The media company I am consulting for has two aspiring clients in the area. One goes to the other major college in town and the other is still in highschool 10 miles south.
That's going to be fun. I do have to do a little research to check out their content because I don't trust a bunch of suits in an office to tell me why their presence hasn't grown like they thought.
I already know the younger one will be a nightmare. Because she is only seventeen. That means parents, most likely her mother is the one calling the shots. She is the one with the bigger numbers right now but she can't seem to make that leap from five hundred thousand to a million and apparently the parents have been very vocal about their daughter being a natural star.
Like anyone is a natural youtube star? It takes work and dedication to survive and grow on youtube. I will know if she has it after a little research and that first meeting. Mike already said that if I think she is a bad investment that they are ready to give up. I guess her parents are causing them headaches.
The older one seems like a better bet from the info they sent me. She is only at two hundred thousand or so right now, but she is happy with it. She just wants help to try to get bigger. The information from Mike and Dan said that she is a pretty new client and is willing to take advice and work hard, she just doesn't know what she should do to sustain growth. It sounds like she wants to grow but not fast enough that she is overwhelmed. I should be able to help with that.
Gabrielle even offered to help me with them but I told her to not worry about it. I don't want anything to distract from her classes until she feels she has a good flow and is locked in. Then if she feels she could swing some youtube girl tutoring then I would be happy with her help.
Then best part is all I have to do is review their content, meet them, and then give them advice. Then I write a report and plan up to send to the office and I am finished. Unless they pay for the company to have me consult directly on an ongoing basis.
My main job is not suppose to be talent based. I was hired for social media marketing ideas and campaigns, not directly to make anyone a star. My quick ideas have already born fruit for them this summer. The last offer of a regular position and the salary was proof of that.
I had to turn it down though. I am not leaving Gabrielle just to make a bunch of money. It wouldn't be worth it to be away from her so much. What good is money if you are not with the person you want to spend it with?
For the next five years Gabrielle's schooling takes main priority after our marriage in my mind. She has wanted to be a doctor since she was a little girl. She will make that dream happen and I will keep her happy while she does it.
So tomorrow afternoon and night we will be spending with my family. Doing the whole "before we leave hang out" thing. Then the next day is for Gabrielle's family. Then we have the going away party with both families and our friends that are still in town. Then a quiet day of just us followed by a dinner out with our parents and sisters.
Then it will be time to jump in the car and head off to the future. It should be a fun trip. It will be long but I broke it out into four days so it won't be all day every day. We will have a couple the evenings to just have fun. That way the trip won't be draining. It will be an adventure.
I think Sandy is going to tell Gabrielle her secret at the party. Gabrielle has no idea that one of her friends will be only an hour away when we get there. I had no idea that she was prelaw and going to a school that is pretty close to the one that Gabrielle ended up in. That will be good for her. A friend she knows that is close enough by to be able to see sometimes that has already been in the area for a year.
Look at how empty this apartment is. Will is already gone. He finished moving out while we were on our honeymoon. Most of our stuff has already been shipped up to the new apartment. The only thing left are the little things that Gabrielle and I wanted to take personally and my old mattress, a few pillows, and a sheet sitting in the middle of the living room floor.
Three years here. Some of the best and worst times in my life happened in this place. Lots of memories. The videos we made, the fights we had, the s... nevermind that. If I go down that road I will just ravage Gabrielle again and we won't make it to dinner.
This was the home where I finally grew up. I know people talk about growing up with the parents and that is true. But it was here that I grew up when I lost Gabrielle and it was here where I managed to grow up enough to get her back. It amazing how much joy and pain can be tied to this place. But it is home. Not because I lived here. It is home because I am here with Gabrielle.
It will always be our first home. The first place I lived my wife. Even if it is only for a few more days.
