Chapter 23

Riley's POV

What was she doing here? And why was she staring at me like I should've been dead? I knew (F/N) was a vampire from what Jason told me almost three years ago, but seeing her red eyes almost staring through me wasn't something I planned on seeing when I came to kill the human Bella. (F/N) stared at me and asked, "H-How're you here? You died a year ago."

I answered, "I obviously didn't die, (F/N). And more importantly, why was Jason the one to tell me you and he were both vampires?"

"Riley, darling, that's enough. You're not here to talk to your old flame. You're here to kill the human," Victoria whispered in my ear from where she was perched on her rock. While I knew this was going to be all kinds of awkward and I probably wouldn't make it out alive, something deep inside me told me I had to for (F/N) even though I was beyond pissed off at her. (F/N) opened her mouth to answer me, but Victoria held up her hand and stated, "Enough. Riley and I don't have time to listen to your crappy excuses for whatever happened before now. We are happy together, (F/N), and I won't have you take that away from me like the Cullen bastards took someone else I loved away from me." I tensed when I felt Victoria's arm on my back, wrapping around my right shoulder and my chest.

I watched (F/N) growl and heard behind her, "Victoria, leave her out of this. This is between you and me about my mate, Bella."

I didn't move as Victoria stared at the male vampire behind (F/N) with the human Bella behind them; this was the human I was tasked with killing. Victoria smirked and said, "You're right, Cullen. I don't have time to fight with your pet."

(F/N) hissed at being called a pet, which made me grin despite myself, and moved forward as if to attack Victoria and myself as Victoria's vampire shield, but the male vampire who'd just spoken grabbed her shoulder. (F/N) stopped moving and said, "One: I'm not Edward Cullen's pet, as I'm older than he. Two: I always thought you were James' pet and not his mate. Three: get your hands off of my mate before I rip them off and feed them to wolves for breakfast, you cunt!" She growled the last half, and even I got scared when I didn't recognize her.

Victoria growled, "Don't you dare call me a cunt, you bitch! You were the one who left this gem of a vampire when he was human, and I gave him the gift of eternal life."

I didn't move as (F/N) asked, "So you moved on from James that quickly? I never knew you to be a slut, Victoria, especially when it comes to the vampires you supposedly date."

That got to Victoria and she let go of me while growling, "That does it! You were not there when my first mate was killed, and you do not get to tell me how I act now! I have found my true mate in Riley Biers, so you cannot have him."

(F/N) stared at me and asked, "Do you love Victoria, Riley Biers?"

And I stopped growling at the other male when I heard (F/N)'s question; it was a question I'd asked myself for months. Did I love Victoria? Do I love (F/N)? The last question was a stupid one because I strangley did, but the first question was harder to answer because the thought of Victoria having another mate shocked me. The male vampire behind (F/N) said, "Riley, you know deep down you're not meant to be here. She's playing you, and (F/N)'s here to help me protect my mate. She doesn't want to kill you like Victoria does once you're of no use to her."

Victoria let go of me and stood between me and (F/N), staring at me and saying, "There's only you, Riley. You know that."

"I can read her mind, so I know what she's thinking," the male vampire I didn't know the name of said.
