Jason's POV

As we entered the Cullen compound, I couldn't help but wonder both about my stupidity at admitting to telling Riley about (F/N) being a vampire and Caius. I wouldn't lie and say I hadn't thought about Caius because God help me, he was constantly in my head! I smiled to myself at our last happy moment together when I felt someone grab my arm and pull me away; (F/N) and the young wolf were talking about Iron Man at the dining room table while the other Cullens and another wolf named Jacob Black talked about the human's protection. I turned to the vampire who'd grabbed me and saw Carlisle looking both at me and through me; why are blond male vampires my weakness? I didn't broadcast that for fear of Edward hearing me, so I asked, "Can I help you, Carlisle Cullen?"

Without breaking eye contact with me, which was normal for vampires, he said, "Let's talk outside."

I nodded and Carlisle pointed to the front door, still staring at me with the same unbreakable gaze all vampires had, especially my Caius. Where was he, and what was he doing? I didn't care and I didn't have time to think about Caius right now, but I made a mental note to think about him later. I took Carlisle's gesture and stone-faced gaze as he wanted me to go first, which I did. I stepped outside, Carlisle shut the door, and I said, "Well, this feels like either an intervention or an interrogation. I thought the police handled interrogations."

"They do, but we're not meant for the police," was his answer; he was right that vampire matters had to be dealt with away from humans, so this was a good move on his part.

I nodded and said, "Quite right you are. Now, what did you want to say to me?"

He took one step down from the deck and countered, "Why did you tell the human boy about (F/N) before she could?" And he hit the jugular vein; this is why he was the doctor, from his lab coat hanging in the entryway.

I shrugged and said, "He had a right to know. And I didn't think it would come up again, so I figured it'd be best if I blurted it out then and there. Happy?"

Carlisle stared at me in disbelief, which was understandable since I sounded like I didn't care, and exclaimed, "It wasn't your place to disclose personal information like that about her to her true mate when he's still a human, and I don't care about your reason! It was an insensitive thing to do, and I don't normally say this, but you fucked up!"

I sighed and said, "I don't know how to not fuck shit up, Carlisle Cullen. I did almost this same thing after Cai-my true mate left me for a woman." I turned to the woods and mumbled, "And now I'll never see him again."

"You will," was the statement I got from Carlisle, but I strangely didn't believe him. It was one thing for me to think I'd see Caius again and hear (F/N) say so, but it was a whole other can of worms if Carlisle said I'd see him again when he couldn't prove that.

While still facing the woods we were just in, I asked, "How do you know that when you can't see the future?"

I heard him stand next to me and answer, "I know from our short encounter that you don't give up on those you love, just like my sons and myself. Even if Caius doesn't look for you, you'll keep looking for him until you're killed by another vampire or your coven mates. And I heard what (F/N) told you; you and Caius will see each other again. And your coven mates will find their true mates again. While you're right I can't see the future, I see the hope in your red eyes." He then put a hand on my shoulder and said, "I know you'll be reunited again soon."

I looked into Carlisle's golden eyes, still wondering why blond males were my weakness both in Greece three thousand-odd years ago and in the present day, and truthfully said, "I don't know how much longer I can live without him. He was with me through thick and thin, along with our coven mates, and now I'm a nomad."
