Alice's POV

I felt Rosalie and Bella's eyes on me as I watched the woman get into her Honda Civic and drive off. Carlisle had to know about this. Rosalie asked, "Are you seeing something, Alice?"
I shook my head and stated, "We have to get home."
Bella asked, "Why? Is she a threat?"
I didn't answer as I power-walked toward our brother, Emmett Cullen's open-air Jeep, got inside, and said, "Let's go! We have to tell Carlisle that there's a new vampire in town."
Bella's eyes flashed between the both of us. "Another vampire?" she asked Rosalie with furrowed eyebrows.
Rosalie shrugged and replied, "There's nothing we can do about it now except to take Alice back home and tell Carlisle what she so desperately wants to tell him."
Bella nodded and they got into the back and driver's seats, respectively; Emmett only let Rosalie drive the Jeep. Once she was inside and we were buckled in, Rosalie carefully exited Forks Proper and sped down the main highway to our estate. Rosalie sped down the highway and the trees became a blur. The ride felt longer than it should've been. Either way, when we got to the estate and Rosalie had barely stopped the Jeep, I sped out of the car, dashed inside, and yelled, "Carlisle! We got a problem!"
He came running down from his second-floor study, followed by my mate, Jasper Hale. Their feet touched the ground just as a vision made itself known. I stared into nothingness and Carlisle asked me, "What do you see?"
There she stood towering over a mountain of burning bodies. Her grinning face shone brightly against the moonlight. The crest embroidered on her black cloak gave away who she truly was. The blonde girl standing beside her only confirmed my premonition. I moved my eyes to Carlisle's golden ones and said, "She's Volturi."
Carlisle backed away and asked, "Are you sure? What did she look like?"
I didn't answer and Jasper asked, "How about you sit down and try to describe what the new vampire looked like?"
He wrapped his arms around me, moved me to the couch, and sat me down. Once I did, a clear picture of this new vampire appeared and I said, "She was standing atop a mass of burning bodies, smiling. She wore Volturi robes. Her eyes were black holes and she had h/c hair pulled up in a tight bun. Jane stood next to her, smiling just as evilly."
The look I saw on Carlisle's face as he sunk into another chair across from me was not one I'd ever seen before; he looked both frightened and also strangely relieved. "(F/N) Volturi," he muttered.
Everyone in the room froze and Bella inhaled sharply; Carlisle knows this girl? How? Esme put her hand on his shoulder and asked, "Are you sure it's her? The last time you mentioned her, you said she'd never think to leave them."
He nodded, stared into the woods, and said, "That's true. She's Aro's prized possession and he wouldn't let her out of his sight. The fact that she's here alone is strange, to be sure, but it's even more alarming that she was seen in broad daylight without anyone with her." He stood up, walked to one of the floor-to-ceiling windows, and rested a palm on it. After a few silent moments, he growled, "It doesn't make sense!" and punched the window, shattering it into a billion pieces. He backed away from the shattered glass and turned back to us with an angered glare. "You see, (F/N) Volturi can walk among humans without being discovered. That is why Aro would never let her leave. Her ability to mask her true form and see various snippets of the future is both highly valuable and dangerous. She's the reason why the Volturi could easily rise to power," he finished.
Esme didn't touch him, but Edward said, "We have to get her back to them. If she's as powerful as you say, then the entire Volturi could be here in a matter of days."
Carlisle asked, "Was she alone?" No one answered and he demanded, "Was (F/N) alone?!"
I answered, "Yes, she was. But when I looked at her, her eyes flashed from (e/c) to red."
Rosalie added, "I don't think she's vegetarian, Carlisle."
That got him smiling and he whispered, "She never liked killing innocents."
Emmett, who stood next to Rosalie with his right hand gripping her butt, asked, "What did you say?"
Carlisle answered, "She never liked feeding on innocent lives when I knew her. It's just like her to hide her true nature from the world." Carlisle's eyes hinted true admiration, but his serious expression said otherwise. "Unlike the rest, she didn't have any other choice but to join the guard. Her strength is what's kept her alive," he concluded.
Bella asked, "So if all of what you said is true, Carlisle, then why is she here without any other vampires?"
He shrugged and I said, "Maybe she's taking a vacation from the heat?" Rosalie scoffed and I exclaimed, "What? Volterra's hot a shit and she can shut off what makes her a vampire! Therefore she burns easily!" Jasper chuckled and I smiled happily that he agreed.
Edward said, "We could hear her side of the story as to why she is here."
I could've sworn Emmett looked ready to rip Edward to pieces. He growled, "If she's a Volturi pet, then it only makes sense that they would be looking for her, dipshit! If we bring her here to chat like friends, she'll kill us all to get to Bella. Do you want that?" He cornered Edward against another windowed door and nearly broke it due to the force he was exuding onto it; the growing cracks were evident. That door wouldn't hold out much longer if they kept at it.
Carlisle's POV
I rushed to their side, pulled Emmett off of Edward, and said, "Enough!! Fighting about it won't help." Edward shoved Emmet and Emmett growled at him. My gaze burned into their temples and they backed off. "Her powers outweigh those of Demetri Volturi. Not even he could track her with her shield. If she's here without any outward indication that she's with the Volturi, then that means she's harmless. She won't hurt us." The boys looked at me and I said, "I know you're scared, and Bella's the only one of us who really should be scared. However, I know (F/N), and I know that she wouldn't hurt a human unless provoked by hunger."
Esme piped up behind me, "When was the last time you saw her, Carlisle?"
Alice said, "Esme's right. She could be a completely different person. We have to tread very lightly with her."
I smiled softly at Esme and asked, "Do you remember the story about the vampire who saved my life? (F/N) Volturi is the one who turned me when I was close to death," I said then turned to look at everyone, adding, "If it weren't for her, then none of us would be here. She gave me life when the man I thought would love me unconditionally never did. I want her to come and meet us on common ground. She would have to feed beforehand, of course, and I want her to explain herself."
Nobody answered; that went way better in my head. I opened my mouth, but Esme said, "She can come, dear. Write her a letter and invite her to our estate. We will welcome her with open arms."
I kissed Esme's cheek and whispered, "Thank you for understanding, my love."
Alice appeared with a paper and pen in her hands, holding an apologetic look. "If you trust her, then there's no reason why we shouldn't," she said.
I smiled my thanks, took the pen and paper from her, and sat down at the table to write. When I put pen to paper, my thoughts came pouring out:
Dear (F/N),
Do not be alarmed, but it's me. Carlisle Cullen, though when we knew each other, I was Carlisle Volturi. I wanted to write you a letter inviting you to my home to welcome you to Forks, Washington, tomorrow evening at seven o'clock. The address is on the envelope. I don't know how to say this, but though I found my mate, I missed you, as one of my closest friends. It pained me to leave you with them, and I do not ask for your immediate forgiveness; I know that takes time. I do ask, however, that you come and meet my family tomorrow evening at the above time. There will be a human there, so please feed ahead of time. Thank you in advance for coming, and I hope we get the chance to reconnect as friends.
Your longtime friend, Carlisle Cullen.
I sealed the letter in an envelope. I hope my dear friend doesn't see my invitation as a threat. When I turned around with the sealed envelope, the girls were chatting and the boys were on the computer. I cleared my throat and Edward said, "We're tracking where (F/N) lives so that the letter can be delivered tonight."
Jasper added, "We wanted to be the ones to deliver it so you don't have to relive any painful emotions."
I smiled at them and said, "Thank you for your help, boys. But I want to deliver this to her. She needs to see a familiar face before she steps into unfamiliar territory."
Jasper grinned and Edward nodded before saying, "We understand."
I cracked a smile, feeling grateful for having an understanding family. Hopefully, they would remind (F/N) of what having one felt like. We both knew hers was ripped apart too soon. A solemn look overcame my features but I pushed it away, not wanting to cause unwanted attention. Edward gave me a knowing look before turning elsewhere. Jasper felt my emotional shift, but didn't show it. As I watched the trees dance, I heard, "Found it."
I turned to the laptop the boys were typing on and smiled when I saw her address. That was (F/N)'s house; that was where I'd find her! I stood up, beamed, and said, "This is where she is. Thank you."
They smiled and Esme whispered, "Be careful, dear. I don't want to lose you to her."
I smiled, cupped her cheek, and whispered against her lips, "You won't lose me to her, my love. I wouldn't dream of leaving you."
When our lips connected, we heard, "Get a room, you two! We sit on that couch!" from Emmett, who was promptly smacked by Rosalie.
"Don't act so innocent. We all heard you two last night in the kitchen," I threw back.
Emmett laughed while Rosalie said, "And no one stopped us, did they, Carlisle?"
Everyone laughed out loud as I walked into the entryway to get my black trench coat and rain boots on since it began raining while we were searching for (F/N) and writing her, respectively. I felt eyes on me, turned around, and said, "I'll be fine. Don't worry about me." With that, I waved goodbye, opened the door, and vanished into the rainy night.
I eyed an old house at the end of a small neighborhood. She chose to live far from the humans almost at the edge of Forks, out of consideration for their safety. I walked up to it, knocked on the door, and waited. When I didn't hear anything, I knocked again and heard, "Who is it? If you have something you're selling, I don't want it!"
I smiled at the familiar standoffishness and asked, "How about opening the door for an old friend, (F/N)?"
The door slammed open and there stood the woman I believed would never grace my presence again. Her eyes widened in surprise and she drew me into a tight hug. "Carlisle?!" she cried out in disbelief.
I smiled at her, waved, and said, "Long time no see, (F/N). You're looking well, as always."
She kept hugging me and asked, "How are you here? Are you a dream?"
I chuckled, pulled away from her, and said, "I'm not a dream and I live here. I've lived in Forks on and off for a couple of years now with my family." I then pulled my letter out, handed it to her, and said, "In fact, I would like it if you'd come to visit us tomorrow at 7:00 PM sharp. They're all very excited to meet you and would like to hear your story."
She took the letter, smiled at me, and said, "I'll be there. Is there a certain dress-code?"
I shook my head and answered, "No, just show up in whatever clothes you're wearing, and we will do the same."
She nodded before saying, "It'd be an honor to meet your family." She then added, "It's been so long since I've last seen you."
"Yes, indeed, it has been a long time," I agreed.
She still looked the same as when I left her. I smiled and she asked, "Would you like to come in for a drink?"
I shook my head and answered, "I actually cannot, I'm afraid. My family is expecting me back. But next time I am in the area, I will take you up on that."
She giggled, clutched the letter to her chest, and said, "Alright, Carlisle, I'll hold you to that. I will see you tomorrow at 7:00 PM sharp dressed to impress."
I almost chortled as I said, "I look forward to tomorrow night, (F/N). And before I go, keep the envelope." She raised an eyebrow, and I said, "You'll see why when you read the letter." She nodded and shut the door while smiling. I beamed happily and descended her steps, speeding home in a happy daze at finding my new friend. Tomorrow would be great, I could feel it.
