I whirled around, back to the dishes, desperate to hide my red face. Well. That had happened. I hoped she wasn't mad at me. I finished the dishes quickly, but didn't dare turn around until I knew for sure the blush was gone from my cheeks. I finally turned and glanced around for Isabella. She was laying on the couch, hair thrown over the arm rest like a black curtain. She was on her phone and humming softly to herself. I didn't want to disturb her. So I sat at the kitchen table. Pulling out my own phone, I scrolled aimlessly through social media and the news. I sighed bored. A notification popped up. When I read it, my eyes widened. The highways would be safe to drive on this Saturday. Today was Thursday. I looked up," Hey Izzy- I started, stopping as soon as my gaze fell on her. She had fallen asleep. I stood up and walked over to her. She looked so peaceful when she slept. I found myself staring at her, taking in every detail of her face. Her long eyelashes, her small nose, her full, pink lips, her naturally rosy cheeks. I smiled, reaching down and gently cupping her cheek. She unconsciously leaned into my touch. My smile widened, I gently rubbed my thumb along her cheek, before removing my hand. I went and grabbed a nearby blanket and spread it on her, making sure she was fully covered. When I finished, I headed back into my own room. I laid back, not bothering to change. I stared at the ceiling. I only had one more day. One more day until Isabella left. I groaned. What was I gonna do without her? I had to do something special for her Final Day.
I sat there for hours brainstorming. I didn't want to do anything crazy. Just something simple, fun and possibly romantic. Let's just say the idea came to me at like three in the morning. A plan began to form. Simple, yet effective. I grinned at nothing in particular. And when Isabella woke up and came in a few hours later I hit her with
" Isabella, I know what we are gonna do today!" She smiled at my old catch phrase.
" What is that?" She asked. I stood up.
" Since it's your last day, we should celebrate. So let's have a picnic!" I announced. She tilted her head
" Wait last day?" She asked genuinely confused.
" Oh yeah. You were asleep when the notification came out." I remembered. She raised an eyebrow expectantly.
" The highways open back up tomorrow. You'll get to go home!" I said forcing as much enthusiasm into my voice as I could. Her face lit up
" Really that's great!" She said smiling.
" I know, that's why I wanted to just relax and have fun on your last day!" I said. Her face fell slightly. But she quickly replaced her smile.
" Well, let's get started." She said turning. I followed after her, stifling a yawn.
" Don't think I didn't see that. You cannot keep staying up all night." She said from in front of me. I was slightly surprised she had noticed.
" Yes mom." I mumbled, thinking she couldn't hear. I was soon rewarded with a pillow to the face.
" Hey!" I called. She turned back, batting her eyelashes innocently
" What?" She asked sweetly. I shook my head grinning
" Nothing. I deserved it." I said passing her into the kitchen. She giggled at my statement.
" Anyway... What should we bring on this picnic?" I asked opening the now full pantry. She came up behind me and glanced over my shoulder.
" Hmm. Maybe like classic peanut butter and jelly?" She proposed. I shrugged.
" Sounds good to me." I said. She nodded, wove around me and grabbed what she needed from the shelves. I excused myself and went o find a large enough blanket. When I had suceeded, I came back to find Isabella with four sandwiches, grapes and, water bottles. She was putting them all into a bag.
