Shinso sighs deeply as he gives a deadpan look at the villain in front of him. Really, they shouldn't be called villains. They're just criminals. Perps. The villain is twisting on his seat. Shinso is really too tired to deal with some lies. Again.
"So again, your alibi is a mysterious stranger handed you the gun, made you put your prints on it, robbed the store, and then hid the gun in your underpants," he repeats tiredly to the villain, looking at him with a "really?" face.
"Well, yeah, if you say it like that, it don't sound believable," counters the villain anxiously but firmly.
Shinso sighs loudly, flipping the pages on the file mindlessly. He can't believe people sometimes. It's either the lie or the truth. Then again, the truth is from the perspective of the beholder. In the corner of his eyes, Aizawa walks by, a mug of coffee in his hand, ready to slump back into his sleeping bag. What a mood. Then, he remembers the paperwork he did for a case.
"Oh, hey, Sensei," he calls out. Aizawa stops and drinks loudly his coffee, giving the signal to continue talking. The villain is squirming on his seat, but Shinso doesn't care about him. "Did you get my essay on the Finley murder?"
Shinso can't help but add a bit of hope in that last sentence. He's been trying very hard to impress his mentor since he took him under his wing. Aizawa shrugs.
"Yeah, I looked it over," he drinks loudly again, making the villain sinking deeper into his seat. "Nice work."
"Good," Shinso looks back at the file. Even if it wasn't a full-blown critic, he can take that over the simplest action anytime. "Thanks, dad."
The room is silent. Shinso looks up and sees their eyes drilling his skull as if he was hiding the most precious treasure in the world. Aizawa stops dead on his tracks. Ashido sips loudly her tea, Jiro tries to hide her snort behind her hand, Kaminari is looking at him like a fish on dry land and Iida gives him big eyes.
"Why is everyone starring at me?" Shinso asks very slowly.
"You just called Aizawa Sensei "dad"," baffles Jiro, a snort escaping behind her hand. "You said "Thanks, dad"."
"What?" Shinso's brain and memory are trying to remember when he said that. He can't pinpoint it. "No, I didn't," he replies in his defence, "I said "Thanks, man"."
"Do you see me as a father figure, Shinso?" says Aizawa with a teasing tone.
If Aizawa is using his teasing tone, he definitely said something wrong.
"No!" he tries again to defend himself. "If anything, I see you as a "bother" figure, 'cause you're always bothering me."
Annoyed tone. Yes, what a good way to use your imagination, Shinso. He could've picked better arguments. Or else, all those debates with Aizawa were for nothing.
"Hey!" Iida stands up, hands slamming down on his working desk. "Show your father some respect!"
"I didn't call him dad!" he cries out once again, trying not to sound like a moron or a whiny child.
"No, no, no, no, Hitoshi," Shinso can hear that Aizawa is having too much fun with this. It's pissing him off. "I take it as a compliment."
"It's not a big deal," Kaminari says casually, trimming his nails beside Ashido who is slurping her tea louder. "I called Midnight "mom" once, and she's our teacher."
"Guys," Shinso points at Kaminari, who looks offended in return by it, "jump on that! Kaminari has parents issues!"
"Old news!" laughs Ashido. She leans closer on her desk, fluttering her eyes lashes. "But you calling Aizawa Sensei "daddy" -"
"Hey," calms down Shinso, an angry tone to his voice, ""daddy" is not on the table here."
"But you did call "dad", dude," cuts the villain who is sitting a bit taller.
"You, shut up," Shinso makes a swift movement of his hand, clapping his finger shut together to motion "shut up". "You've done nothing but lie since you got here."
He's getting really annoyed by the teasing. Jiro has stopped laughing, but he can still see her smirk. Ashido is still drinking, but quieter. Kaminari is lifting his eyebrow as if to suggest something else than what is being discussed. Iida is working at his desk, ignoring the calamity he has contributed to. Aizawa is still standing.
"All right, all right," finally admits the villain. "I was lying about the holdup. But the dad thing, that happened."
"Ha!" Take the smallest victories, even if they embarrass you to no end. "He admitted that his alibi was a lie. It was a trap, all part of my crazy, devious plan."
He tries to say the last line smoothly, but even he can hear the uncertainty in his voice.
"I believe you," affirms Aizawa seriously.
"Thank you," sighs Shinso.
"Son," he adds with a wink.
Shinso groans and wonders since when was Aizawa even a prankster. Probably because of Kaminari. It's always his fault.
"Do you want to talk about it later over a game of catch?" Aizawa asks, motioning between them with an eyebrow raised.
Shinso might not be a fool or a moron, but one thing he is is a normal young adult who needs more love and affection in his life. So he replies in the quietest way he can.
"I'd like that..."
He has never regretted that line more than anything in his life.
What did that last line mean? I dunno, I thought it would be funny. It's just relaxing writing stuff like that. This show was created by Dan Goor and Micheal Shur. If you liked it, go give the real show some love.
Next up, Bakugo sure can't wait to be king.
