Harry

It felt great to be back at Hogwarts. For Harry it was the first place he had ever truly felt at home. It was still hard to walk down the hallways after last year. So many people had died in the battle Fred, Lupin, Tonks…

Harry felt better when he sat down for breakfast with his friends. He held hands with Ginny and gave her a quick smile before turning to his friends, “Ready for our first day?” he asked.

Hermione nodded eagerly, “Our last year is very important, I’m just hoping this year will be uneventful,”

“Shhh, don’t jinx it!” said Ron between mouthfuls of food.

“Do you really think nothing’s going to happen especially with that new kid Perseus?” Neville took a seat next to Ron.

“I don’t know, I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole demigod thing,” said Ginny

“Actually if you think about it, it’s not too hard to believe,” explained Hermione, “I mean most of the Greek monsters exist in the wizarding world, so why not the legends that go with them as well,”

“It’s still weird,” remarked Ginny, “I mean he looks so young to be some sort of diplomatic ambassador,”

As if on cue the new kid walked into the Great Hall. He wore his American clothes under a Hogwarts robe and they were damp like he had been outside. He sat down at the very end of the Gryffindor table putting space between him and the rest of the students at the table.

“Is he going to be taking classes with us?” asked Neville suddenly nervous.

“Ugh, can you imagine him in Care of Magical Creatures with Hagrid,” said Hermione

“What do you mean?” Harry asked

“If what he claims is true and he is a demigod then I doubt him and Hagrid will get along. The demigods in the old Greek myths fought and killed creatures like the sphinxes, Dragons, GIANTS..,”

“I guess they didn’t believe in poor, misunderstood creatures,” commented Ron

Later

Harry was sitting down for his first class of the day, Defence against the Dark Arts with the Ravenclaws. The new kid Percy, as he insisted on being called, sat in the back of the class. He was reading what looked like the DADA textbook but in a different language, Greek maybe?

The class started when their new teacher introduced himself as Professor Hellmenn. Professor Hellmenn was a man who looked like he was in his early thirties. He had dark brown hair and looked to be fairly tall. He also had an accent but it wasn’t a British or an American one. It was strange for Harry to have a DADA professor he hadn’t already met the last one was in fourth year. Professor Hellmenn was an enthusiastic teacher but Harry found himself dozing off as the professor, talked about defensive spells. DADA was Harry’s best class and he was a little annoyed when he discovered that he already knew most of the material in the text book.

He looked over to see how Ron and Hermione were faring. Hermione was deeply entranced in another textbook and Ron was listening to the lecture. Looking for something to pass the time Harry looked in the right corner of the back of the classroom, where Percy sat. The demigod wasn’t paying attention to the class either. He sat at his desk a pen in hand but he wasn’t writing with it. He kept tossing the pen in the air and catching it when it came down again. The demigod must have noticed Harry staring at him because he suddenly whipped his head around to meet Harry’s eyes. Percy smiled at him, and after a moment winked.

The rest of the morning flew by and soon it was lunch. Harry sat at his usual spot with his friends. Halfway through lunch when Hagrid came up behind him, “Hay yah, Harry how’s your firs’ day bin so far?”
“Good, what happened to you? You’re covered in feathers!” and so he was. White feathers covered Hagrid’s tattered old coat. He looked like he had gotten in a fight with a flock of chickens.

“Ah, a Pegasus has bin causing some trouble in the forbidden fores’ an’ it has bin botherin’ the centaurs. Had to move it to outside my cabin. ”

“A Pegasus,” breathed Ginny, “Will you be showing it in your classes?” she and Neville were the only ones in the group taking Care of Magical Creatures this year.

“No,no not this one. It’s a bad one this Pegasus,” Hagrid shook his head, “It’s a mean one, wouldn’t let any of you kids near it,”

Farther down the table Percy made a sound, “A bad Pegasus never heard of such a thing,”

Hagrid looked at him and gave a start when he recognized Percy as the new kid, “Well from what I understand your magical creatures are differen’ form ours,”

Percy looked down at his food, “True that,” he murmured.

That night Harry sat on the couch in front of the fire in the Gryffindor common room. Ginny was lying beside him, her head in his lap. Hermione and Ron sat together on an armchair of to the side. Hermione was ‘helping’ Ron with his homework. Meaning that after trying to explain it to him for several minutes she gave up and started to do it all herself.

“I would’ve thought that they‘d go easier on us this year,” commented Ron

“It is technically our seventh year,” said an exasperated Hermione who looked from Ron’s homework, “You know, Are NEWT year! The year that helps decide what jobs we can do!”

“Yah I know, but you’d think that after last year we’d be able to get any job we want!” said Ron, “We did sort of save the Wizarding World,”

Ginny groaned and threw a pillow at him, “Only you would think to get special treatment for that,”

“They should at least give us a free pass on homework, that Percy kid gets a free pass,” complained Ron

Harry smiled, “That Percy kid has only been in the Wizarding World for two days. You can hardly expect him to be able to write an essay on how Hinky Punks differ from Will O’ the Wisps!”

“Well apparently you can’t expect Ron who has known about the Wizarding World all his life to write the essay either,” said Ginny making Hermione  and Harry double over laughing till their sides hurt.
