He still hadn’t heard a thing from Serena ever since they saw each other at the principal's office. She had missed all their lessons, supposedly she was sick according to his teachers but Jackson knew there had to be something else going on that made Serena stay away from the high school. Maybe it had to do with the recent murders she had done on his late friends, were the police on to her? Or was it what happened that day with her and Natalie? There was so much unknown about the sirens and their mysteries but that hopefully would be solved for him soon, Jackson thought.

It was past five o’clock when Jack walked towards the classroom of Mr. Richardson. He knocked on the door. “Mr. Richardson?”

“Just give me a few minutes, Jack,” shouted his teacher.

The door opened a couple moments later. Mrs. Weatherfield walked out and greeted Jack, overly happy. He smiled back at her and then walked in. Jack closed the door. “Hello, teach.”

“Sorry for the wait, kid. Elise needed an extra hand.”

“All good, sir. Did you bring the stuff?” he teased.
“Of course, I did,” laughed Mr. Richardson. He grabbed his leather bag and placed it on his desk. He grabbed out a few old books along with a giant journal full with loose papers sticking out. “It is the good stuff.” Jackson grabbed a chair and sat down next to him. “Your wife’s journal?” the teacher heard. He nodded. “Bea surely did her research on Sirens seriously.” He opened the journal on the first page.

Legends used to be history.

Mr. Richardson saw Jackson admire the quote his wife had written down. “I know. I was lucky to have her.”

“What happened to her?” Jackson asked carefully as Mr. Richardson moved through the pages.

“She went missing in 2002,” Henry said with tears in his eyes. “They never found her body. This is all that I have left of my wife. A few books and one journal filled with her passion.”

“I am so sorry for your loss, sir. I know how it feels,” he said remembering his parents’ death was in 2002 as well. He never expected that his teacher had experienced something similar. Jackson felt regret for 'spreading' the high school rumours about Mr. Richardson's apparently late wife. "I am really sorry."

Mr. Richardson smiled a little. “It is alright, kid. One day I will be reunited with her on my old day.” He blinked a few times. “Anyway, you wanted to know more about this beautiful forgotten legend. This is the best place to start: the origin of the curse.”

“Curse?”

If Serena was cursed, this would mean he could save her. Would this be why he felt so connected to her since they met? Was he meant to save her?

Mr. Richardson laughed. “Sirens are cursed creatures, Jack. It is said in the old scrolls of Nature’s servants, you kiddos might know them better as witches, that the Siren curse started as a blood curse created by their own kind.”

“So, you are saying a witch created the Sirens with their blood? Does that mean the curse runs through their veins?”

“Exactly! If their blood would ever get in your blood system, hypothetically, they could turn you into one of their own. The scrolls said if you die with their blood in your system, the blood cells with the Siren curse takeover your entire body to survive, causing you to become a Siren.”
