X POV

Someday I just wish I could wake up from this horrible nightmare telling myself that it was all fake. All those memories engraved in my head are just one big lie, right?

But should you rather believe a lie and be happy or keep living in that inescapable nightmare...?

I miss you, I wish you were by my side, but I can only watch you.

Xiao Zhan's POV

I tried to get up, but an unknowing strong force pushed me down again.

Dear legs, how could you betray me right now just the moment when I need you the most?! Just WHY?!

I took a deep breath trying to assure myself everything would be okay while trying to stand up, but after a few more attempts I ended up stopping on trying, and just decided to put my hands up into fists.

If I can't run, then at least I can put up a fight.

The moment she stepped in front of me I felt all my courage slowly fading away and my fear rising as snow for the sun.

I tried to put on my meanest face and voice, "I-I'm warning you! I can throw a mean punch and I'm not afraid to use it!"

She stared at me with wide eyes, filled with something that looked like surprise? But just for a few seconds because after that she freely started chuckling.

When she started chuckling slowly my fear of her disappeared. I couldn't quite understand why, but she felt somehow familiar, and her laugh was full of happiness, it brought me a warm feeling inside my chest.

Still softly chuckling and shaking her head she looked away which allowed me to have a look at her profile.

Sharp jaws and a fierce look while her eyes told a totally different story, her eyes with the beautiful green glow that changed from time to time looked somewhat lost and... maybe if I didn't see it wrong at least, sad?

After a long silence, a question slipped my mouth before I could have to think twice about it, "What are you doing...?"

"Enjoying the view," after these three words a silence fell down, but it wasn't an awkward silence I rather considered it... Peaceful, before I spoke up again "But... there's nothing here except gloom?"

"Did you know that this place here used to be wonderful, almost as if it totally stepped out of a fairytale? Green mountains, sky blue rivers, grassland and prosperous cities, everyone here was living a happy life and a beautiful spell of endless and everlasting happiness was cast. Until one day, the air, soil and water here were polluted...

With poison...

We ended up having no land for farming and neither water to drink for more than months, I remember that year because it's engraved in my memories. Many innocent souls died, everyone had to hide in the cave or underneath because there was nowhere else to go, and everywhere we went, it wasn't safe. And now as you can see, everywhere you look everything is covered with sand, dust and no trace of the place it used to be. You would almost call this place dead, but believe me there used to be a time in which this place was a paradise, a place to achieve dreams, hope and above all, love..."

Out of nowhere, all my questions disappeared like a cloud before the sun, my heart ached because of her story, after all, how would it have been like living here? Not knowing if there would be a tomorrow?

I looked up scanning the landscape, literally everywhere you looked there was only sand and gloom just like she said, and I couldn't imagine the beautiful place it once was, but maybe this place is like human beauty, someday it will just all be gone.
