🐺🐺🐺CHAPTER 11🐺🐺🐺
I woke up slowly, like from a deep sleep and rubbed the dust out of my eyes. A faint ringing echoed in my ears and my mouth was dry. I was in the infirmary. Memories came back to me-shouting, being carried and then the warmth of healing magic. Sitting next to me, in a small armchair which he didn't fit on, was my mate. My mate. Purple bags hung under his eyes and his face was pale as if he hadn't gotten much sleep. I opened my mouth to say something but stopped. He looked as though he needed the rest. I laid back against the pillows and movement caught my eye. Fenrys was stirring. He stretched like a cat and brushed a hand through his hair. Then he caught sight of me and shot up, chair falling backwards with a clang. I winced at the noise. Fenrys leaned down and hugged me tightly. I huffed in surprise but hugged him back.
"How are you feeling?"
"Been better." He pulled back and surveyed me.
"Look I need to explain what happened with Klarissa-"
"Who?"
"The female I took to the ball." Oh right. My heart fell at the memory. Was he seriously doing this now? Not asking me what happened?
"Hm I can't quite remember what she looks like." I said sarcastically and he frowned. I think it was pretty obvious the reason I had run out, so there was no need to hide it.
"I'm sorry I shouldn't have-"
"No its fine! I over-reacted. You don't owe me anything, it was me being petty." The truth of the words struck me deeply. I had overreacted, over a small crush. It's different that I know we're mates now.
"No I-" He tried again looking pained but I cut him off.
"Honestly, don't worry. It's nothing." He nodded slowly but his eyes held hesitation.
"SOPH!" Aelin shrieked as she came in.
"YOU'RE ALIVE!" She continued as she rushed over and booted Fenrys out the way. He snarled but she ignored him as she stared at me.
"How are you? Do you feel better? What happened? Did someone kidnap you?"
"Good, yes, I was kidnapped and yes. I think that answers your questions."
"Ha ha. Seriously what happened we were all so worried." Aelin's concerned tone caused me to drop the humour.
"Yeah we were." Fenrys added.
"I was injected by this sort of thing that made me fall unconscious and then I was taken to this facility somewhere in the forest. The person who kidnapped me is called Maliki and he wanted revenge on you for killing his lover, who was apparently Maeve, and then he wanted to use my powers to bring her back to life."
"Powers?" Aelin lifted an eyebrow.
"I don't know." I admitted.
"I healed myself for a while and then it went away, so it can't be healing, and I had a dress on and I know I'm not making any sense, and I knocked Maliki out with it, which is how I escaped."
"She's telling the truth, she was wearing a dress when I found her. Perhaps that was what the magic surge was." Lorcan. How the hell did he get in without me noticing? There is literally only one door. WTF.
"We can sort out magic later. How are you, like seriously?" Aelin had clued into what had happened in the two weeks I had been gone.
"Can we not talk about it?" Avoid subject, avoid subject, avoid subject. Aelin stared at me for a second before nodding and smiling weakly at me.
"Where is Maliki now?"
"I locked him inside my cell and left." I addressed the dark haired fae male.
"Good." Wait. Does Lorcan care about me? Awwwwwwwwww.
Lorcan must have seen me reach that conclusion because he growled and stormed out the room. Aw he likes me now!
"We'll send some people into the wood to find out if he's still there. Shout for me if you need anything." Aelin promised and left the room.
"Do you need anything?" Fenrys asked and I turned back to him, almost forgetting he was still in the room. Every time I looked at him I couldn't help but think about how he was my mate. Which would need to stop because he probably didn't know and there was no way I was forcing him into anything. He already felt bad because of my hissy fit disappearance, believing it was his fault! He was entitled to going to the ball with whoever he wanted, I've barely known him for a month. I would just have to be grown up about it.
"A bath sounds amazing right now." He chuckled and helped me stand up.
"Ahhhhhh my bedroom is on the other side of the castle." I complained. I wish we were back in Aelin's castle as the infirmary was on the same corridor as my chambers. Fenrys grinned at me.
"Hold on."
"To what?" With a flash of light we appeared in my bedroom. Oh right, his powers. I tried to take a step and almost fell over from the dizziness. I held a hand to my head to wait for it to pass. Fenrys gazed at me worriedly.
"I'm sorry, are you OK?"
"Fine, just dizzy. That would have been much better than the walk though and it was so cool!" His expression morphed to pride and happiness and he beamed at me.
"Now not to be rude or anything but can you leave so I can have a bath." I started towards the bathroom and turned to look at him. He walked over and plopped himself on my bed and rested his arms behind his head.
"I'm staying here."
"I'm just having a bath."
"Yes, but who know who might come and snatch you in the meantime." His tone was jokey but his eyes held genuine fear.
"OK then. But no peaking or coming into the bathroom." He smirked. I rolled my eyes and entered the bathroom.
"Are you sure you don't want me to join you?" He called after me and I stuck up my middle finger behind me. He laughed and I smiled secretly.
-------------------------------Time Skip-------------------------------
I toweled my hair and fastened the towel around me. Looking in the mirror, I brushed through the tangles until my hair was vaguely smooth and set down the brush. I strolled out of the bathroom and into my room and headed for the closet on one wall. Only to falter in my steps because a certain wolf shifter was lying sprawled on my bed, looking at my pictures. What the hell! I spent like an hour in the bath so he would get bored and leave! Guess he was really patient.
I froze, half debating running to the closet and the other running back to the bathroom. I swallowed to prep and he looked up. Stupid fae and their hearing. I felt my face go red as Fenrys grinned and leisurely looked me up and down.
Fenrys POV
Holy shit he was in trouble (AN: hehehehehehe remember this?). She looked like some sort of angel goddess with those long golden legs and the towel hugging her in all the right places. Her hips curved deliciously with an effortless beauty. Perfect. She nibbled on her bottom lip nervously. Molten liquid pooled at his core and his focus turned predatory, tuned in on those plump lips. Oh the things he would do to her. His eyes darkened as his wolf howled to mark her, claim her. Especially after her kidnapping. His wolf hadn't stopped whimpering without her and now that he had her back he wouldn't let her go.
"I'm going to leave." He got out through clenched teeth as his primal need to claim her, sink his teeth into her neck- shit. He needed to get out of here quick. Without waiting for a response he stalked out the room.
