Kanan x Reader: Dive to Blue

(Before you ask, yes the title is taken from a Fate/ Grand Order craft essence.)

My name is y/n l/n and I was born and raised in Hida, a city in a very mountainous area of Japan. I had never even seen a view without mountains somewhere within eyesight until my family had to move to Uchiura. When I first saw the ocean my mind was overwhelmed in it's beautiful vastness. It almost felt so large that it could be infinite. There were a couple of times I went swimming but because I'm a pretty poor swimmer, I didn't swim too far out. And for all of these reasons I fell in love at first sight with a girl named Kanan Matsuura who it felt like thrived in these wondrous conditions that so amazed me.

When I first saw her, I approached her and started talking to her. She looked so happy with how blown away by the ocean I was. After that, me and her became friends. I've met a couple of her friends and helped at her family's diving shop when she really could use the help. She was determined to help me improve my swimming so that she could have me dive with her. From what she's explained with how blown away with the ocean I was when we first met, she wants me to see how beautiful it is underneath.

And now today, after meeting her a year ago, when we were both second years at our schools, is the day that she's taking me diving.

Me and Kanan were both on a boat headed for an area where the water is deeper in wetsuits and I nervously looked over to her and asked "Hey Kanan, do you really think I'm really ready to go diving with you?"

She gave me a reassuring smile "Yeah, me and Yō have both been helping watching your progress, and we both think you've really improved a lot over this past year. As long as you remember the safety stuff I told you earlier, you'll be fine."

I nodded to her and said "Okay, if you're so sure then I'll believe you."

I sat there and prepared myself mentally until we got to where she wanted us to dive from. We put on the equipment and I closed my eyes while we dropped ourselves into the water.

When I was fully submerged, I opened my eyes and saw that we were surrounded by a gorgeous blue world. I could see all sorts of fish swimming around and I marveled at this, I felt something touch my shoulder. I turned around and I saw Kanan swimming besides me. With how at home she was, it was like she was in her natural habitat. She looked absolutely beautiful here in this blue world. We swam around and I explored the area by the boat. It took me a couple of minutes to acclimate to exploring an area while moving in three dimensions but I had a lot of fun.

When we got back on the boat and we got back on the boat Kanan gave me a smile and asked me "So what did you think? Is as great as your feelings about the ocean when you came here?"

"It was fantastic! It's so vast and beautiful! It makes all my practice swimming this year all worth it!" I answered smiling.

"I'm glad to hear that y/n. Shall we head back?"

"Sure but real quick I want to tell you something. I love you Kanan. I love how relaxed and kind you are and I love how you shine when I see you diving. Will you please be my girlfriend?" I said. As I said it I realized that if she didn't return my feelings then the boat ride back to her shop would be way too awkward for my tastes but it's too late to stop now.

I saw her expression change from her satisfied smile to a blush as she grabbed me and pulled me into a hug "I love you too y/n. I've loved you since I first met you and my love for you has only grown as I've spent time with you. I would love to be your girlfriend."

I then pulled her into a kiss. Sure we're both covered in seawater but I felt like it was only right. We then took the boat back to her place and spent the rest of the day until I had to go home spending time cuddling and watching movies together.

A/n: The first time I saw the ocean it blew my mind and so that was what I developed into this story. After the next chapter I'll start planning my next larger story. I'm still deciding what to do with this book while I'm working on that and I'd love the opinion anyone reading this. I could either put this on hold to focus entirely on the larger story, I could do one chapter of this on Wednesday and a chapter for the larger story on Monday and Friday, or I could do the previous one but release it biweekly.
