Bucky spent most of Thursday working, but it wasn't as bad as the other days had been. The sky was cloudy all day, and there was a cold breeze that he enjoyed tremendously. Working in construction was not easy during the summer, and he tried to enjoy days like that one when he could, even though they were not common. When he got out, he went home and took a quick shower before going to the hospital, where Clementine was working. She could have perfectly head to Brooklyn by herself after work, but Bucky could tell she was nervous about meeting his mother. He didn't know why, since Clementine had a way of talking to people that not a lot of people had. Everyone always liked her because of that, since she was polite, smart, and something about that always drew people towards her. He knew his mother would also like her because of that, but for some reason, she didn't think so. He knew she would be nervous all the way to Brooklyn, and he thought maybe she would feel better if he went with her all the way there.
He had to wait outside of the hospital for awhile. That week she didn't have a fixed schedule, so none of them really knew when was she done. He walked around Manhattan for awhile, looking at people walking home after work and looking at the huge skyscrapers of the city. Everything looked so much better during the summer, and he really wished he could move to a tropical country and work at a place with a roof, so he wouldn't get tired of the sun.
Around 6 p.m, he saw Clementine heading out of the hospital with Maria. They both looked tired but happy, and were so into their conversation that they didn't notice he was there. He had to wave his hand to them so they could notice him, and as soon as they did, Clementine smiled and went towards him.
"Hey, you. What are you doing here? I thought we were meeting at your place." She said, kissing him.
"I wanted to surprise you."
Clementine chuckled. "Well, we better go, then."
"Of course. Maria, it's nice to see you again." He said.
"You too! Well, have fun lovebirds. And you'll be okay Clementine." She said, winking an eye at her friend. She then waved goodbye and went walking on the opposite direction.
"And what is that supposed to mean?" Asked Bucky, as they started walking towards the bus stop.
"She knows I am nervous about meeting your mom." She said, blushing.
"I don't understand why are you so scared. Everyone likes you." He said, encouraging her.
"I don't know! I don't want her to think I am a spoiled rich girl without a personality." She said, shrugging her shoulders.
Bucky laughed and shook his head. "That's just silly. But I knew you would feel like that, why do you think I came to look for you? So you wouldn't have a nervous breakdown on your way there."
Clementine raised her an eyebrow. "You came all the way from Brooklyn because of that?"
"Yes, because I know you. And I know that talking makes you forget about your feelings and you will relax."
"Well, how thoughtful of you." She said, smiling. "Thank you... it does help."
He then nodded and put his arm around her, kissing the top of her head. They were at the bus stop already, and Clementine groaned when she saw the amount of people waiting for the bus.
"I miss calling Arthur..." she said, burying her face into his chest.
"Why didn't you?" He asked her.
"Because I am scared he might accidentally tell someone he is taking me to Brooklyn." She said, sighing. "But using public transport is worth it... since that way I can see you whenever I want and I don't have to worry."
